I would recommend sending them a cease & desist letter. You can find the templates online or in this forum. Have you already told them to stop once?
Next step would be to send it certified mail to them with return receipt when delivered. This will prove that you are serious, and that you want the calls at work to stop.

Yes Scott, mikeyindetroit is right. You should inform the agency not to call at work. You have the legal right to define the mode of communication between the debt collector and yourself.
Use certified mail to send your letter. If the collector continues to call at your work despite of knowing that your employer does not allow such calls, it will be a violation of FDCPA which may result in legal proceedings against them.
For any more information, please feel free to ask in the forums.

this brings up a question
I recently got a few weeks behind on a car payment to Americredit. they were calling me on my cell phone 5, 6, one time 10 times a day. I asked them to stop calling me, and to remove my number. They said they could call as often as they wanted and if they remoed my cell number from their records, then they would just start calling my references instaed. I already filed one complaint withthe FTC before this, but are they right?? If I tell them not to call me can they just fall back to harassing my references?

Creditors such as the one your with can call 5 times a day until they reach you. I once had a problem with Total Card, who would call that many times a day. It was all on a dialer system, and I was either there, or I wasn't. So...the 4, 5, sometimes even 10 times a day is reasonable. Once you talk to them, you won't hear from them for another week or so. And then again....the dialer would do the same.
There really isn't anything you can do about seeing the 7 missed calls on your cell phone. I mean you could answer it.
Now...if they are actually speaking with you, that's another story. You can simply tell them "What did you tell you last time I called." You could also file a complaint (if you're actually speaking with them).
I would try to get the car payments resolved so you don't lose your car.
And as far as getting a new number or telling them to remove your number from their list...they are right again. The list automatically will go to the next number available...which is usually refrences to get you to return their call.

Even If they talked to me they would still call me that often, sometimes even again or a couple times the same day. I did tell them exactly as you suggested, they just continued to insist they could do what ever they wanted.
But what if I were to have sent them a cease and desist letter, and tell them to only contact me by mail. What's to stop them from calling all my references and harassing them?
By the way, I couldn't answer most of the calls as I was at work at the time and it would have created a public safety situation due to the nature of my work.
The car payments are caught up and my bank automatically makes that payment now on my first paydate of the month. Actually the bank automatically pays all my bills now.
That is considered harassment then, and I would consider filing
That is considered harassment then, and I would consider filing a complaint against them. It is not illegal to be in debt. It happens to the best of us during rough times. When creditors/lendors constantly call when they've been told the situation (especially as much as you've described) that's taking it a little too far.
Creditors will call your refrences because usually the CEASE&DESIST letter pertains only to you. You would have to add in the letter to not contact any affiliated with you....included family, co-workers/employer, and refrences.
My situation was different. They did stop calling after I spoke with them. But seems like they just wanted to harass you.
Glad to hear you've gotten the car loan caught up. I as well have a few bills that are automatic. It's a life saver. Because sometimes...that's just it. We're too busy and forget to pay our bills.
