I have a, rather large, collection with Cavalry. It was my ex wife's car, which was reposessed in 2002. Of course, there's really not much one can do to get an ex-spouse to secure her own financing. Bottom line, the car is gone, and my CRs have a nasty ole blemish on them. It's not like I need the additional help with bad credit. :) Anyway, has anyone had any luck with these guys? You know, the normal DV, Dispute, etc. process? Anything special? What about them filing lawsuits? Are they nasty like that?

Cavalry are scum, and junk debt buyers. Never give them any info at all. They report the "debt" on credit reports even before they send you the first demand letter sometimes (which is illegal). Find out the statute of limitaions for your state, and if the "debt" is out of statute, send Cavalry a cease communications letter (return receipt). I would suggest sending this anyway. They rarely sue, because they are chasing a fast buck, contacting people who are "horrified" by being contacted by a collection agency and quickly pay up.

Yes FYI, and this is usually what Cavalry does. They put it on your credit report right away. Cavalry usually deals with a lot of boggus Sprint and MCI accounts as well. They used to send out demand letters that had "pay now and save 50%" on them in the form of a coupon LOL. This might be for a debt that someone doesn't even owe, but if small, will pay anyway to get the agency off their back.

Watch out with these guys, I just got off the phone with them and they were rude rude rude   .. the funny thing is, that I had already paid the bill and was just asking for a conformation letter stating that the bill was paid. The lady on the phone started getting loud saying that I was interupting her while she was trying to explain that the bill was paid last month in february Now, I'm not a math major, but I can count back one month from now, and I guarantee is not february. so she is resending the letter to the correct address and I have desputed the bill with the credit bureaus and hopefully it will get updated.
