I have been looking into trying to get some help on my debt problem with credit cards. I have changed jobs and not making the money that I use to and can not make the minium payment on credit cards right now. I am not behind on the yet, I am trying to keep from it. I am wondering what is the best route to go. I have tried to talk to one consolidation company and they wanted me to make higher payments then what I am already making. They told me to get a second job, consolidation loan or file chapter 7. I have tired to get a consolidation loan but my debt ratio is too high and can not get one. I have checked out a couple of web sites and wondering what to do next. I am confused on debt consolidation and debt settlement and how long they stay on your credit report. Any help you can give will really help.

Sassy,

Welcome to forums :D

A new loan to pay off others is not the right strategy. It won't help you in the long run and might take you deep in debts.

Bankruptcy is also not a wise decision. It affects your credit adversely and stays in your record for next 7 to 10 yrs. That is the reason experts advise to avoid bankruptcy always:

I would go for debt consolidation. This will help you repay all the unsecured debts with affordable monthly installments and reduced ROI. As a result you become debt free very fast.

IMHO, you can avail free consultation offered by this site. It will help you discuss your obligations with the consultant. Your consultant will prepare a payment plan according to your debt to income ratio, so there is no question about its affordability.

When you agree with this payment schedule, your consultant will negotiate with your creditors to get this plan approved. You need not deal with collectors or creditors any more.

Please enter your contact information in the sign up form of this site to get the free counseling. Best of luck.

I have started the sign up form but do not have the account numbers I need to finish. I have been told by a couple of friends that the debt settlement will hurt me more than the bankruptcy. That the 7 year time frame does not start till I have paid off my account, plus the credit cards can still call, write and sue me and interst and late fees will still apply to my account.

Hi sassy,

Debt consolidation and debt settlement are two different process and people mix up between them very often.

This is the reason you should look for some company that is expert in this field. The issue you are concerned about is mostly dependent on negotiation process. The consultant who will be working in the program will insist your creditors to report it in your favor. Once your accounts are reported as paid in full or paid as agreed, it will push your score up.

These things only happen when the process leaves some loop-holes behind. Everyone should prepare one agreement before starting consolidation process and get it signed by the creditor. This paper will describe the new terms and conditions applicable from thereafter. So no question of further harassment.

Have you tried to sign up in this site? Could you please tell us what problem did you face?

I have been trying to sign up on this site. I put my personal information in and got to the point to put in the credit card info and it asked for account number and amounts. I do not have that info with me at the moment. I wanted to see what ya'll might be able to do for me. I have tired differnet sites and not really getting any where. I get different stories from different sites and different stories from friends that have gone through this or filed bankruptcy. Please help.

I tired the link you gave me and it said that my email address was already used. It must be tied back to the first form I started. I did get a call last night for superior debt that said I contacted debt consolidation care. Is that a call that came from this site??

I was just telling the other member about my friend who is using their program. Their fees are very nominal and can be included in the monthly payoffs.

Besides, they have a good customer care representatives. Feel free to talk to them. There is nothing to worry here. Here is the thread I was telling the other person.

Sassy

[quote]I checked them on the BBB site and they are not registered to debt consolidation. This is kinda scary now.

What did you use to do a search on this forum. If they are not a debt consolidation company, you would not get referred to them.

Also, are you logging in each time to post? If you've signed up on this forum, you can use your sign on to obtain points.

Regards-
Mike

I have signed on but I can not log in with the password they gave me. I have tried three times.

I look at the BBB in Vegas, that is where Erin with Superior Debt Services is located. The BBB told me that this company is not registered with them and not registered to do this type of buiness.

Lisa-

I meant to say your councelor, Erin.

When you are logging in, are you putting in your complete address with the @ sign and the dot com. You'll need the entire address, as well as your password to log in. The login is not from Superior, though. The login will be for this site.

Sorry to hear of the troubles you're experiencing.

Regards-
Mike

Mike,
I did put all of my email address in. I sent them another email stating what was going on. Hopefully they will correct it sign. I am missing out on points.
Ok I thought you meant to put Erin. I have not talked to her on the phone yet, only by email. There are so many out there and I am not sure who to go with. I had one that had my payments where I could handle them, but I had to reg flags. They want to hit my checking account for the payment and the laywer with them was out of the kayman(sp?) islands. I contacted the local BBB and Attorney Generals Office and they told me to stay away from them.
