Hi everyone,

As I look thoughout this forum, I see other collectors stopping in as guests simply to lambaste the debtors in this forum, calling them deadbeats and scolding them for being debtors. Then they go on to defend the collectors being complained about in the forum, the ones who use illegal harassing tactics in the name of recovery.

Like I stated earlier, I did not crawl out from under a rock one morning, traipse into a collection agency and have a job handed to me. I know how the world functions. I approach each debtor with an open mind. After all, I don't know them from Adam, therefore I can't determine why they are in debt until I talk to them.

There is a great difference between being caught up in circumstances and being completely irresponsible. This something each collector must be aware of.

A perfect example of a very unique circumstance is the one being experienced by Mom of Twins, a forum member. She is a hardworking family woman who had been robbed blind, and then ridiculed by the original creditors. Now the collectors who call her are treating her like an irresponsible oaf! Where is the open-mindedness in that?

Statistically, I would say that roughly 25% of the debtor population are the truly irresponsible. The other 75% consist of people like Mom of Twins who have been ripped off, people who are newly disabled and have settlements pending, people who have been unemployed since their default date and still searching for gainful employment, and people who have disputes against the original creditors for reasons of their own.

A perfect example of an irresponsible debtor is the person I called yesterday. She had defaulted on a credit card. Why? Because she got pregnant and quit her job! She was not married, and had three kids. So she basically blew off her original creditor. This is the very definition of irresponsibility! People like this who do not think before they act, and who do not make sure all loose ends are tied before having children. Of course, she was angry with me for putting her on an affordable six month payment arrangement! This really is the limit of my compassion, people who do stupid things like this!

Another reason why this situation irks me so much is because, for the past 50 years or so, we women have been busting our **** to prove ourselves in society and in the workplace. Any woman who can take on the challenge of career and family, more power to you! But women who shirk financial responsibility in the name of motherhood, and possibly going on public assistance to boot, are disastrous to our progress in gaining full equality. It hasn't been attained yet! No female President yet! Still no equal pay for equal work!

Overall, sometimes everyone has huge problems to overcome, but shame on us if we create these problems for ourselves.

Yeah, they already know. I just hope it doesn't have to come to me having to explain myself at all. I believe my former manager has enough social grace NOT to completely sabotage me. Besides, since he had nothing nice to say about TruGreen and very little nice things to say about me, then he may let it be believing that it's a perfect match.

Hi Ari,

Congratulations on your new job of TruGreen-ChemLawn. :D Do you have the experience of the work that you will be doing here, or will you be experiencing a new platform? I am sure you will manage everything with the confidence you have in you.

What are the job timings? Tell us more about it. I am feeling curious? :D

Regards
Roxette

The kind of experience I have that won over my new 22 year old boss is my experience in being outgoing and building friendly rapport that I did in student loan collections, he was also interested in my gardening knowledge from my year at Home Depot. I worked in Ouside Garden, Greenhouse, and Lumber, all natural products. In Outside Garden I got to know all about lawn and landscape care, in the greenhouse I got to learn about ph testing in soil and water samples, also about what each different plant grows best in. You can't grow vegetables in the same soil as your flowerbed. The different plants have different needs. In Lumber, I was the only female in an already understaffed department. It was on me to take care of all the customers, and it was fun. The people that shopped in lumber were mostly contractors who were impressed to see a woman using power saws and driving the forklifts. It helped me become even more outgoing.
The schedule for ChemLawn is 2-3 hours in the morning out running leads, that is traveling around town (company pays for gas) surveying business and residential landscapes, measuring them, maybe taking soil samples, and then leaving a note on their door telling them to expect a call from me and why. Then starting at 3 pm is six hours spent in the branch office calling all my leads. Its about 45-50 hours a week, average first year reps make $35-45k in their first year. Pretty sensible for someone with a Bachelor's degree in marketing.

Yes it's perfect. I'm not a morning person, I hate having to drag myself out of bed at 6 am by alarm clock and then race against time to be on time at 8. I don't like coffee that much either, so I don't normally depend on caffeine to keep me alive.
My Bosu came in today! I'm so excited! You should get one, they rock! It's like half of a stability ball on a platform, and you do a combo of yoga, weights, and aerobics on it and it helps you fine tune your balance!

They're at Target, Wal-Mart and other department stores, you could also buy them online, or get one for less on e-bay. The Bosu and yoga are what my mom turned to when she decided it was time to give up the weights. She's 51 and had been an active bodybuilder since her early 30's, she still looks young and is in top shape, but whether one likes it or not, prolonged weightlifting does joint damage and causes problems with loose skin when you do it so long that your body doesn't fit into your skin anymore.
