"Closed by Creditor" due to inactivity

Once upon a time I was very good at paying off my cc's every month! Then I would only use them for tuition or maybe a vacation, then pay off and they would be inactive for like ever.

Well I just recieved my credit report, it indicates I had 4 or 5 American Express cards, the time active did not overlap for any of them. They would close my account "by creditor" and issue me a newone with a new number everytime. And yes I did notice the new numbers but I recently got a new number from my current amex card but they explained my previous card had expired, which it had....

My Question is can I dispute the "closed by creditor" part on my CR? I know it looks bad....

THanks for your time,
Quicksand

Quicksand,

It's true that ???closed by creditor??? is not a good mark; however, it does not have any direct impact on your credit score. If an account with good standing is closed by your creditor, it does not hurt your credit score. But you might have to give some explanation while a manual checking is done by your future financers.

You can dispute any item that you consider to be incorrect. Since your credit card company reported it as closed by creditor, it will be better if you can contact your card issuer and request to report it as closed by card holder. That will be favorable.

Hope some other members will give more tips here.
