What to do now?

I was contacted by the Law Office of Mitchell N. Kay regarding a debt. It's an AMEX account that I did owe, & not pay, & allowed to fall into collections. It's moved away from AMEX, to NCO, to this MNK office. I paid NCO steadily, $250 per month for a little over a year. Now it's at MNK. MNK is offering to allow me to keep paying $250 per month if I send them $750 as a "good faith" payment.
My question is...am I doing myself any good by paying $250 as opposed to, say, $100? My credit's still getting dinged...OK. I'm working on paying off other debt...but this thing's interest free & I could be applying more money to an interest bearing debt.
