I found a pretty good definition for the term harassment that would go along time lines of the definition of collection harassment. I've seen some complaints from others saying this and this is harassment when it really isn't along the lines of this definition. It's pretty user friendly..

ALSO! Dpeending on your state laws generaly collectors are allowed to speak to you or your answering maching 3x a day or only 3x a week. No more than that unless you have given them permission to do so.

Thanks for bringing up the article, FYI. I agree with you that all the collection calls done within the legal lines are not harassment. But the point in question is that how many collectors follow the legal lines? Not many of them!! If you read the article carefully, many collectors actually use those means restricted by law. We raise our voice for only such reasons, not for all.

You have been browsing this forum for a while. I hope, you might have realized the nature of complaints made by the people. Don't you think it is unfair to say that the collectors are not required to give anything in writing to the person? They are not willing to validate the debt at any costs. Besides, peeping into the personal information of the person and then forcing him to pay the debt without any documentation is not at all legal. We raise our voice for only illegal means of collection practices. Not for the ones that is legal in nature.
