Hello.... I have a debit to Washington Mutual that my ex left me with. I owe $1031.04, and they offered to settle for $618.62. Is this all they will do? I am prepared to give them some money, but I dont feel that I owe that much. Most of it was bank fees from my ex writing a check for $350. I have no problem paying this amount, not the $1000. Any help would be appreciated

Do you have something in writing from the company? Get your debt validated by them before you make a payment agreement? They are bound to follow the federal laws and prove that this is a genuine collection attempt on the said debt.

If you send them money now without having any documents, you are not sure whether it will get posted towards the account and won't go into their pocket. I will use some caution before sending the money.

I have worked with them. It all depends on who you talk to. Some will go out of thier way to make you mad, while others will actually help you. The helping ones are WAY to few though. Try calling back and talking to someone else. I did till I found someone willing to actually work with me, give me other options, and treat me as a human. Hope this helps a little!
