Can a debt buying corp go after someone for a debt that is about 9 years old. The person they have filed a notice to sue has not any recent charged off debt. The last time was in 1998 with a credit card and a auto finance company. There has been no phone contact nor any letters from a lawfirm who says they represent a debt buyer corporation in Maryland (Centurion Capital). The sheriff left the papers in the door and there she has NO clue what it is about. We spent three days searching through old records and I noticed they did not even use her legal name with her midddle initial so it could even be someone elses'
Even if it is hers it would be from 1997 or 1998 and this IS 2006. What is with these people. My friend is totally stressed over this and I keep researching the lawfirm and find out they are B A D.

Rosie, debt buyers can,and do try to collect old debts. But that doesn't mean they will get it. Check out this web site at http://www.fair-debt-collection.com/statue-limitations.html Find out what the SOL period is where your friend lives is.Since she has been served papers, she must reply within the time frame,or they will automaticlaly issue a judgement. She must provide the court and judge with papers to show this is out of the SOL period, they won't look it up,or figure it out. Send a dv letter to them to get all the necessary info on the validation. If you have any questions, please ask-I may have confused you !!...Karen
