I need help.......I have gotten way in over my head with pdl's!!!! I don't understand why everyone just keeps giving me these things. I have over 7 internet loans & 6 store loans. I am in debt to them for a total of $6,500. I don't even know where to start. I tried talking to an financial counselor through and Employee Assistance Program and he was lost for words. All I was trying to do is pay my bills on time. Why do I feel like the biggest loser because of all of this?? I make really good money but just seem to fall into these PDL's. Some are threatening collections because I finally broke and didn't have enough money to cover them all anymore. HELP!!!!

Tiana,
First off, welcome! You are in the right place and no, you are NOT a loser!!
Second, are your PDL's storefront or internet? That is the first step to get out of the cycle. What you will also probably have to do is close your bank account and get a new one, so they can't debit it.
Keep posting and let us know how you are doing!

Welcome Tiana-you aren't a looser, just made some bad choices. But there is always a solution. Since you are registered here, someone will contact you about your options, such as consolidation. Alot of internet pdls are operating illegally and all try scare tactics.Store front lenders can and often do take action. But,talking to them, explaining the situation, and telling them you want to get this taken care of,sometimes helps.Consolidating all of these would mean one payment a month and alot lower interest fees,so this may be your answer. Browse through some of the other threads on pdls and see what others are doing or have done. Good Luck...Karen

Tiana,
Cashtransfer Centers and Northway Debit are just another name for Sonic Payday for which there is scads of information to be found here. If they made you sign a voluntary wage garnishment, my best advice to you is to revoke it immediately. Geneva-Roth Ventures is also well known on this site.
Advance America is a storefront which I have personally paid off and I can tell you they will try and be ugly, but once you get a payment plan going, they should cooperate. They did with me.
Sonic is based out of Canada and is not licensed in many states, including California. Things will get bumpy, but don't any of their **ap and remember that you do have rights, OK? And post often and let us know!

So instead of closing my checking account like kscornell suggested, I stoppen my direct deposit. I was looking into opening another bank account elsewhere and kept getting declined. At least this way I can keep them from taking my whole paycheck like they did last Friday. I have a car payment due today and have no means of payment. I am so stressed. Anyways, just had to vent.

Tinkers, you should also talk to your bank about stoppign any debits to the account so that you don't have to worry about your bank becoming overdrawn.

How much have you paid to the internet PDLs? What were your original balances. You may have overpaid some of them, and can possibly get the balances marked paid in full...

 Good news today....I was able to close my checking account and open a new one. Now they don't have the opportunity to ding me with so many NSF fees. Now I can work out deals for payment arrangements. It's funny how the smallest bit of advice can make a huge difference. Congrats to me on my 1st step!!!

One of my problems is that I can't close my account at Bank of America until the overdraft fees are paid. The overdraft fees are a result of the pdl companies attempting to get money that I don't have. I've explained this to my bank but they say that if I've given approval for ach withdrawels to these pdl companies, there is nothing that they can do. Today, one of these pdl companies called me at work and threatened to criminally prosecute me. I don't know what to do.

David, 1)It is illegal for the pdl company to threaten you with an action they know they can not follow through with, you will not be prosecuted, it's just an empty threat they use, 2)Doesn't BOA allow you to put a stop payment on debits? 3)I would just go and open a new account at a new bank before it is too late. If you can't you need to stop your direct deposit or you will never see your paycheck and be able to take back control. Remember, they can't prosecute you they are giving you empty threats in hopes of extorting money out of you, and that is what they are doing, committing a crime ,extortion. Call them on the threat.

I recently faxed all of the pdl companies I have pdl's with a letter telling to them to stop withdrawing funds from my checking account, to verify/validate the debt, and to let me know how much I have paid so far on these loans (interest and principal). I did that on Monday and then closed my checking account on Friday. You need to talk to your bank about your options.

Hi david1340. My bank is BOfA. I went in and explained that I needed to close my account because I got caught up in PDL's beyond what I could afford and they just keep hitting and creating NSF Fees. The bank wants to help me out. They said that you can put a "Restraint" on your account where no one (including yourself) can withdraw from it. My suggestion is to put the restraint and pay off the NSF fees, close your account and ask to open another acct. This is exactly what I did yesterday and it worked. They don't want to take your money. Go into the bank and talk to them. I dreaded it, but my mom (who I work with & carpool with) finally convinced me to go in and do it. Trust me....all the way home she heard how relieved I was. :-) I just let the bank know that with the PDL's having access to my accounts they weren't willing to make "reasonable" payment arrangements. That's the truth. We all still need to be able to put food on the table, pay for gas to go to work so we can get paid and keep up on bills that keep our homes going. You're not in this alone. This is just the first step. Let me know if you need anything.

Tinkers,

That is exactly what I did, I had my bank put a block on all debits and only allow credits, because I needed time to get my direct deposits swithced over to my other account. When my direct deposits went into the blocked accounts, the branch manager would lift the block for like 2 minutes while I made a transfer to the unblocked account. It is so nice when you have a Bank that understands and is willing to work with you. I know some people out there aren't that lucky.

Thanks for all of the suggestions. I just started a new job about 4 months ago and I'm afraid that these pdl companies will contact my employer directly. I would think that my company would not understand if 5 pdl companies start calling them. I guess they would think it's a character issue. I just got so far behind in my bills prior to getting my job, I was kind of desperate.

The pdl companies that I'm dealing with are:
Exprescash Loans
ameriloan
One Click Cash
VC Funding
JD Marketing
GFS
These were all originally for $300 loans. I read the Illinois law on pdls but can't figure out if they are legal in Illinois.

David1340, just to ease your mind I talked to my manager and she is glad that I came to her just incase they do contact her. No ones perfect. All you have to do is let you employer know you were just trying to keep your head above wather...it's not a lie. Don't be embarrassed!! They can't hold it against you. Like my manager said if they contact her she will let them know that it's illegal for them to discuss my financial matters with her and will hang up. If you are a good worker your employer can not hold it against you.
