Ok I have some credit card accounts that where open by an identy thief. any way I just found out about them and they are past the sol for my state. they are charged off and have been purchased by a collection agency I belive. I was wondering if the sol applies to the collection ageny's date that they accuired them or if it is when the credit card account was opened. I'm really worried because I have gotten a message on my answering machine from an attorney about one of them and waas wondering if I could get taken to court before I got it cleared up. thanks

HLJ, did you file complaints with the police about the suspicious account? The fraud alert department should be notified about this suspicious account. You also need to get in touch with the creditors. The SOL is calculated from the date of last activity in your credit report, not from the date the collector acquired it. Ask the collector to validate the debt because you want to know that they are doing proper collections on this and it is one of your legal rights to get the complete information of the debt by the company attempting collections.
