Financial credit services

My in laws received a letter from this company the other day stating that they owe a debt to a bank for over $6000. My in laws called the guy listed on the letter for more information and to let him know that this debt is from 1974 and was discharged in bankruptcy court. The man was rude. He told them "I'll settle with you for $1000." My in laws told him no way. They have the bankruptcy paperwork from way back then and they're going to make copies and send it to this company.
The guy also told them that this debt was from 1984 and that he has all of their personal and financial information. He said "You have more than $1000 in your bank accounts. Let's settle this right now or I'll see you in court." My in laws refused and told him again that this debt is uncollectable. The guy then said "FINE! SEE YOU COURT!" and hung up. LOL I guess they frustrated him. But they're frustrated too. They're extremely worried and were questioning how this company got a hold of all of their information. My mother in law was very upset and said that she cancelled all of her credit cards and warned the bank about this company immediately. Her bank told her that they can't do anything without a court order and to disregard the letter. I told my mother in law that I would research this and help her get these people off her back especially since it's a debt from 1975 that was discharged in bankruptcy.
Thanks for reading

Lies, lies, lies. He was saying anything to try and extort money from your in-laws.
Sounds like they are doing the right thing and sending copies of the documentation. Make sure they send it certified or registered with a return receipt to verify they recvd the letter.
Do you have an address or phone number for this company. I have found a couple "Financial Credit Services" via Google. One is a debt collector, but they specialize in medical debt. The other deals with loans for real estate.

Yes we have the address for them. They're in Illinois and it's the one that collects medical debt. My in laws said that this is strange because they're not trying to collect on a medical debt, they're trying to collect on a loan that was issued from a bank that is no longer in business.

I am dealing with this company right now. They lie. They are going after me for an 18 year old car loan that was repo'd over 15 years ago and went into default 16 years ago. They said they will put a lein on my house, go after my husband (we weren't married at the time) get an article 15 on him (he's military).. freeze our accounts. I told them the statute of limitations is up he said no it's not. They want me to settle for 1600 .. They say the original was 16k but no way that's right!! Anyway, they are being sued by the attorney general of Illinois and have tons of complaints on them from the bbb. Good luck..
