I too am just starting to deal with Asset Acceptance...I just recently checked my credit report with experian and found a judgement was issued and garnishment ordered against me in june of this year...in checking throught the information on hand I discovered that the company was sending letters to an address that I have not lived at for 8 years...no contact was ever made with me and according to my experian report no credit check was done by them until Sept of this year. I now am a store manager with a large retail store and the garnishment will not only harm my credit but also my position with the company...any suggestions that you can give would be appreciated

I would try getting ahold of the company that is garnishing your wages, explain to them that you never received any of the letters being sent to your old address, and ask if you can work something out. Basically, I believe they are the only ones that can stop the garnishment. You can try to appeal, but basically once the garnishment is ordered, it's pretty hard to get it reversed. Good luck. Let us know how things go.

Hi, welcome to the forums.

First of all, a garnishment cannot in any way affect your job standing. You cannot be judged by this, it's against the law. Trust me on this, this is what I do for a living!! No matter what anyone tells you, you can't be fired or demoted for a garnishment.

I'm assuming they haven't found you yet, and garnishment hasn't started? That's good..You can definitely call the company and make arrangements. DO NOT give them any personal info, and tell them you need to mail money orders. Very important. Also, tell them you need in writing that they are cancelling the writ. As long as you keep up with the payments, you should be fine. One thing, though..Your credit already has a big black mark because of the judgement. Being garnished will not make it worse, it's part of that. You can only be garnished 25% of your disposable wages..That may be cheaper than any arrangements they would be willing to make with you at this point. Good luck, and keep us posted. If you have any garnishment questions, please feel free to pm me.
