Read the last post on stll mad as hell

We all have a job to do. Unfortunately, we humans have a tendency to lump things together. Having just posted for the first time on this board, I don't know much. What I do know is that one person doesn't represent the group. From what I can tell, you're a valued member. Perhaps for the benefit of those that do appreciate your help, you can continue to be an active voice. Just my humble opinion.

I will not stop posting here...Just to let you know.. I enjoy helping people who want to help themselves and if there is anything I can do to help, let me know, and if you ever have any questions about collections in general, let me know.

Don't stop posting. Everyone has there own opinions which can help the community tremendously.

Beauty...i think that some of your advice is very helpful. Just let it go...most of the ppl that make the rude and hateful comments are either PDL reps or CA reps...

Guest is right, there are no personal attacks in that thread. People are discussing their issues with specific CAs and the tactics of some collectors. Don't understand why somebody would take that personally, it is a public forum, people have the right to voice both sides. And I hope that continues, that is healthy.

When I post on this forum I assume my collector mentality. I'm not really here to make friends and be appreciated. I'm just here to try and help where I can because I know how it feels to be on the bottom of the barrel.

I work for a very excellent company that follows the law, pays extremely well and has a super nice bonus set up. I am fortunate. This company has given me the insite that I wish I had years ago on collections so I am here to share so that maybe I can possibly help someone who is where I was because no one should have to feel like it is the end of the world.

People do not like collectors. Even if you are the nicest one in the world. They don't like you because they don't like the situation they are in. Being in debt is upsetting and stressful.

When you start to take things personal it is time to step back. Take as long as you need because if you don't chances are you wont like what comes out of your mouth next. Our first defense when we feel attacked is to attack back. It's human nature but when a bill collector it makes you look like satan. It's a part of the job.

Go read a book, whats your favorite show, call your girlfriend up and complain about the mean people who hurt your feelings. Let it out, it will make you feel better in the long run and when you come back you will most likely have a different point of view because your head will be clear.

There are very few collectors that come to this site and give valuable advise. FYI and Ari have been the most professional in terms of the collectors. I think FYI is the one I through some answers at and she answered them in a professional manner and made her point clear. As I have discussed with Ari, if all collectors were professional and stayed within the law, there wouldn't be the problems there is now and their wouln't be all the lawsuits. I would have given an arm and a leg to have just one collector call and be pleasant and work with me. But instead, I got all the bottom feeders that were out to cushion their monthly bonus and committed several violations. There are 3 companies that come to mind that I actually had to call the sheriffs department and request an officer. Two of the companies were stupid enough to curse and violate the laws when the officer was on the phone with them. I have been threatened with having my kids taken away, being thrown in jail, my husband being arrested, etc. It got to the point where I would just say, go ahead and come and arrest me, I need a vacation.

Given the right environment,the potential for abuse is still there!

There is always potential for abuse in life..In every situation.

As I am digging myself out of my own debt mess, I tried to go in with an open attitude. Last night I had a call that could have turned ugly if I wanted it to. Instead, I stepped back, listened to the collector who was mostly nice and said I would call him back next week. He said that was fine. I'm trying to dig myself out of a mess that got worse after I entered into debt settlement. I'm no longer with that company because they blamed me for none of my accounts being settled. They were grabbing at straws but they amended the situation. I for one appreciate the collectors on this site because I can learn what to do next.

I appreciate the collectors, albeit there are few, that will attempt to work with you. You sound like one of those few, Beauty, along with FYI and Ari. I wish there were more like you three.
