I read most of the articles in reference to Asset Acceptance Collector Agency. I am also in the same situation and I am very concerened and worried. I also received a letter indicating that I owed money and that they are trying to collect it for Providian. Well I never opened up an account with Providian, so when I called the company that know owns Providian, told me that the account that was given to me on the letter from Assest Acceptance does not exist. I immediately put in a fraud alert with one of the credit report agencys and I also got my credit report and on the report it does not show such thing. I am worried because when I spoke to a representative from Asset Acceptance said that on the records they have my name with my ssn number. I haven't applied or even tried to opened up any type of accounts for the past couple of years for the same reason that I was trying to protect myself because of these cases. How did they get my personal information? The person who I spoke to also said that he would investigate because something was weird. What did he mean? I really don't have a clue, He told me to do a police report and fax it to him, but know I am not too sure if they are going to do something about this. If I do a police report should I do an identity theft report, or should I do it as collector agency scam.

Send a dispute letter to Asset Acceptance because you don't reco
Send a dispute letter to Asset Acceptance because you don't recognize the account shown by them. You have copies of your credit report to prove that this account never existed. Keep those papers in a safe place. You might need them later.
File a police complaint on the possibility of identity theft. Because your personal info is with someone who should not have had it. If they are asking you to send a copy, do it in case that resolves this matter.
