DirecTV seeks Focus Receivables on Customers
Date: Wed, 02/14/2007 - 10:29
They are DirecTV dogs, seeked on customers that have cancelled their accounts with DirecTV, when DirecTV has no legitimate claim against those customers or DirectTV finds that it is more economical for them to have Focus Receivables harass a customer into paying dubious charges, rather than to have their own high paid internal folks discuss matters that will not be resolved in DirecTV’s favor because they know they have permanently lost the customer. They harass you several times a day until you give up and pay trumped up charges from DirecTV. Focus Receivables people are rude and don't want to listen to anything you say.
Here is my personal experience: DirecTV gave me lousy service (disconnects for days, "snowy screens", etc) I told them I was going to cancel my service with them as soon as my "contract" was over. They sent an inexperienced contractor to "fix the problem" so that I would not cancel my service. The service did not improve. I called them to cancel my service (My "contract" had already expired but they had already automatically, and I may add conveniently, extend it). After that, they did not send me a bill or called me to discuss my account. They knew I was upset and that they had lost me for good.
I have been so disgusted that I have not had cable or satellite service since June 2006.
My prior experience was with Dish Network. I was satisfied with their service and their responsiveness when something went wrong. I switched to DirecTV only because Dish Network kept going up in price and I wanted to stimulate competition. Dish Network was very nice, they thanked me for being their customer and even left the account "open" just in case I wanted to come back to do business with them. In retrospect, I should have stayed with them. I switched to DirecTV and things went down hill from there.
After I cancelled the service with DirecTV I began getting calls from Focus Receivables since August of 2006 and I am still getting their phone calls. At one point I listened while I was on hold and they were calling me a "prick" because on previous occasions I had hung up on them. They expect me to give in to their pressure tactics but I just ignore them and tell everyone I know about what shabby deals you get from DirecTV and what happens when you get fed up and stop doing business with them.
They are getting a lot of negative publicity and, sooner or later, their business is going to
Suffer in ways they did not imagine. They have already had to settle with the FTC because of bad business practices.
If someone from DirecTV wants to discuss this with me, I am willing to discuss it but DirecTV does not even acknowledge my repeated calls to recognize that they wrongfully extended my contract in the middle of a dispute and therefore I do not owe them a termination fee.
This must be why yet again they are raising their packages $4.00
This must be why yet again they are raising their packages $4.00 a month. That was the increase can pay their goons to harass people.

My suggestion will be to speak with an attorney and get the dispute settled with DirectTV. Focus Receivables won't listen to you because they are just doing their business by collecting on your account. The dispute needs to be settled directly with the original company. When Focus Receivables calls you next time, tell them that your attorney is taking care of the matter directly with DirectTV.

I would also send Focus Receivables a debt validation letter via certified mail/return receipt requested, and also in the letter, request that they cease and desist all telephone contact with you. Request that all future correspondence be sent in writing via USPS mail.
I looked this CA up on the BBB website, and they have an unsatisfactory record. This doesn't surprise me, as I had dealings with them briefly, and they tried to be pretty hard core.
Focus Receivables & Direct TV
My husband has been very, very ill and we have no insurance. As result, I was unable to pay my final bill with Direct TV 4 days after they told me they would old this account until January 8, 2007, the turned it over to Focus Receivables. The reps are rude, crude, and very demanding, telling me I SHOULD Pay my bills! I am not disputing the claim and I tried to tell them that I would take care of it and they got very venomous. This company should be terminated because even though thay have a job to do evn with nasty little collection agencies there is a right way of doing it. Every day at 8 a.m. sharp my phone starts ringing and throughout the day they call and call. Last night they called at 8:45 p.m. This is nohting short of harrassment. I don't know why the lawmakers let them get away with this type of behavior. When I decide to pay the bill it wll be directly to Direct TV and NOT them. I have dealt with a lot of collection agencies but this is the worst yet.
Focus Receivables & Direct TV
P. S. I thank God I don't have to earn my living trying to make other people miserable. There is a kind way to approach people and get a lot more positive reaction instead of making them an inch high especially when dire circumstances prevail. This hard core approach just drives people away and you would think people would learn that by now. The harrasing phone calls just makes people more determined not to pay even though it is a legitimate claim. I can't believe companies allow their people to put the pressure on like that when it has obviously been proven it does no good and they don't even bother to find out your cirumstances and they wouldn't care what you told them anynway. I hope how soon the company disbands. Just my 2???? worth since it's all I can aoffrd :-)
The Silent Treatment
I've been getting calls from these Focus Receivables people, but they say nothing on the phone. There is just dead silence after I state the initial phone greeting. Are they playing games, or do they have hearing problems?

I let my DirecTv account go unpaid after cancelling for poor service quality. The serviceman never even showed up for his appointment and I lost a days pay. I hope Focus starts calling me soon ...
