I know that you can send a C & D letter to a CA but if you start dealing with and paying the original creditor then can the CA report to your CR that you aren't paying? Does that make any sense?

Most creditors and collections agencies are on a reporting cycke. Once a week, month, 60 to 90 days. It's possible that their cycle hasn't passed yet and it has not been updated yet.

Also while ou might be able to deal with the origional creditor you must ask them to recall your account.

In some cases, CA's work under a contract with the OC for a specified period of time, usually 6-12 months. In these cases, a C&D doesn mean that the acount gets closed and pulled back. Any payments you sent to the OC, go directly to the CA. When I was collecting student loans, some of our clients on the credit card side had it written into the contract that a C&D was grounds for litigation.
