Asset Acceptance showing a debt that I never owed

I got a letter from Asset Acceptance at my fiance's house yesterday! They say I owe $1500 on a Radio Shack credit card I never had. Apparently, it's from 1998 and the balance at that point was $750 or something. They verified my SSN and name, and the guy was very rude. He asked if I wanted to pay it, and I said "No, it's not mine." And he said, "Fine, don't waste my time. We'll pursue this." Are they going to try to sue me? I don't know what to do. I'm about to buy a house and get married and I don't want anything to mess that up. Help!

Weii if it was from 98, I would ask them to prove it and then let them keep trying to collect, It should NOT be on your CR and never talk about a payment plan, always tell them it is not yours. If they try to take you to court on it, it will probably be out of SOL. So no worries

Thanks for your advice. It is not on my credit report which is why it's a big surprise. Should I contact them again or wait until I hear back? I don't want them to try to sue me! He hung up on me last time I called, after he said not to waste his time.

DO not even talk to them on the phone, you might be able to give them some (BS) reason to re-age the debt which would allow them to put it on your cr. Do just what Cajun said. do eventhing thru the mail.
