Hi. The name's Melissa. On Nov. 6th of 2006, my husband and I were desparate. We were having problems with overdrafts in our bank acct and couldn't pay our bills. So, we (stupidly) applied for 2 pdls online. Within a few minutes, we received a call from B&L marketing and from Nevis Marketing. We took out 2 loans in the amount of $200 each. They told us they'd be emailing us the forms and we'd have to electronically sign them and send them back. For one thing, we never got any forms. They just deposited the amounts into our bank account. That was that.

Then, both companies began to automatically debit our account $60. After the first debit, I called both places and they stated that it was a one time finance charge. Okay, whatever. Then the charges began to come out every two weeks. I'm sorry, but I can't afford $240 every month to basically be thrown away. We were told by B&L that these were for payments made towards the loan. Okay. So the loan would get paid back. Nevis told us that the debits were interest charges on the loan and we'd have them charged to us every two weeks until the loan was paid. So, we managed to scrape together the money and authorized Nevis to take $200 from our account. They would only take $100. What kind of loan company won't take the full amount owed?

Since then, we've tried to contact both companies. B&L keeps charging payments and Nevis keeping charging interest and doesn't really seem to want their money back. I finally got sick of it, because neither were authorized to take any money to begin with - and I filed a dispute with my bank. They gave me back the amount owed to me and blocked both companies from removing money from the acct.

So far, I have heard nothing from Nevis. Today, I received a phone call from a Tracey Alexander at Bass and Associates. My husband spoke with her. He couldn't remember if it was Bass or not, but after calling them back and hearing their recording (which was difficult to understand what company it was - it sounded like Devin or Benson) AND after seeing their phone number on anthonylemons.blogspot.com
- I realized it was them.

They threatened us by telling my husband that they were going to prosecute us as criminals and sue us for personal gain. She was very hoity toity sounding and advised us to get a lawyer. She also claimed that she would get the state of Iowa (which is the state I live in) involved and that we could also be prosecuted by the state. What I found particularly odd was that, when she was asked how much we were being sued for, she couldn't give us an amount. Anyone willing to go to court for $200 is ridiculous.

We have spoken with the attorney general's office. We were transferred to the dept. of banking. Currently, someone named Rod Reed is assisting us. However, he wants to know what website we visited to get a loan from B&L and I can't remember! If anyone remembers what website they visited to get a loan from B&L please let me know! I want this taken care of ASAP. I really want Bass and ASSociates to be taken care of as well. I could only be so lucky. Also, if ayone would like to share personal experiences with these companies, feel free! I need all the help and support I can get.

Thanks!

First of all you did the right thing to contact your state. But now you should contact the state of Florida because that is where bass is from. Thay have claims piled up on them. But when you get the papers from florida make sure you get them noterized. My states DFI is trying to get them also and she is even willing to mail me a copy of my entire file to send to Florida. How cool is that?

As far as that website, i'm sorry I don't have a clue. It could have been from almost anywhere. Because you can fill out a general app. then they search for a lender for you. Or you could have just gone to their website and filled out an app. But when you filled out the app. you gave your banking info on that app.

You should sign up and join the forum, because here we support each other and share our experiences with the companies we have delt with.

Since I sent Bass a dispute letter by CMRRR and my state sent them a letter they haven't called or sent me anything. I still want to pay the original creditor but not for 3 times the amout I originaly owe.

Good luck with Bass and let us know how things go with them.

My boyfriend was sent some letters in the mail yesterday and called the Bass Associates. He talked to them and they kept telling him that if he didn't send them 1100.00 by 8am today that they were going to take his truck and put him in jail. That this was a federal offence. What happened is that we took out some loans with Sjm Marketing, Jd Marketing, Paragon and ameriloan. He incountered a problem with identity theft so he put a stop payment to everything and closed the account. Now he has been trying to find numbers and address to all of these plaes so that we can make the payments and we can't find anything. SO if you have any information on any of these loans laces that would be very helpful. But back to the story. He closed the account and then after the acoount being closed for about 2 weeks we geta letter from the Bass place in Florida. He talked to them and thats when our life got turned upside down. They told him that they were going to put him in jail and take everything if we didnt pay by 8am today.
So if you may have any additional info that would help us get ahold of these people to pay them off that would be great.
Another thing is can they call us and threaten us like that? And is anything that they said true can they put out a warrant for him and have him takin to jail?

Yes, they just did. It is however, illegal. If you can PROVE it, then they could end up owing him money. File complaints with the FTC, your attorney general, and FL attorney general. If legal in your state, you might want to try to record their calls.

What state are you in?
How much was borrowed from each company?
How much was repaid to each company?
Are these storefront or internet loans?

No charity they cannot have you arrested and it is definitely not a federal offense. It is a civil matter, not criminal. Do not let them intimidate you, also they are not allowed to threaten you like that. Ask for a debt validation letter. Also you can send them a cease and desist letter, theare are copies that you can find on this website. Make sure you get the debt validated that way you don't pay more than you should. They will try to intimidate you, but don't worry they can't have you thrown in jail or take your vehicles.

Well Melissa, interesting thought here; since they had you sign nothing physically or electronically then you may not be contractually bound to anything. Unless it constitutes a verbal contract in your state.

Additionally, in some states internet PDL's are illegal and if it is so in your state you may not owe them anything. Best to speak to your Attorney General about that.

Hello everyone, has been awhile since I have been on this website.A little reminder of my dealings. I am also a Bass and Associate victim. I have done all the following:contacted AG of Fla,AG of MI,sent letter of validation and cease and desist. I contact my state attorney general in December of 2006,finally in March of 2007 bass responded with a letter just full of lies. I hadn't heard anything since then until today September 24, 2007 a company called my work and my home and said I was a person of interest and I must call this 1-800-918-3849 or have my attorney call this number and ask for division 4 and then ask for Mary...They didn't identify who they were or why they were calling. So naturally I called back and asked for division 4,amazing that the first person to answer the phone was division 4...how convienient. Anyways, I asked for Mary and was told I can help you. I asked for Mary again, person then raised their voice and stated, she works for me and I can handle it. What is your name?I asked them to first identify who they are and they just answered back what is my name? So I only told them my first name, then he asked do you have a last name and I responded yes.(I didn't just give it up that easy). He then called my smarty pants and told me to get an attorney and hung up on me. Anyway ever seen this phone number before??
