I received a message on my answering machine today from Simm Associates saying they need me to call them to talk about a CIT Investigation. I am wondering what a CIT Inestigation is? This is about a credit card debt I had. Hope someone out there can tell me what this is.

I think at last count we are at $23000. These are all debts from when my husband went thru a 3 year period of unemployment after 9/11. One agency pad up $11K to my husband and $7k to me for numerous violations. This agency left messages with several individuals that they had a warrant for my husbands arrest. I answered a phone call and they threatened to call 911 and have me arrested for "obstruction of justice" for not giving them my husbands cell phone number. (I was recording the call) When we sent an intent to sue letter with copies of answering machine messages and conversations, they immediately offered $2000. We used an attorney for this one. The other ones have been easy. One left a voice mail message on our answering machine stating "we would be filing with the courts at 3pm today." Two weeks later I called and the CA had not filed, nor could they. The account had not been sent to an attorney.

It all comes down to documentation and for me, recording the calls. (I am in a one party consent state.) One $500 Citibank charge off has now paid out 3 $1000 fines. It is now with a 6th agency and I am now waiting out this one. Technically the current agency has already violated by not validating the debt promptly but I will wait it out for a collector with verbal diarrhea.

This company was collecting on a charged-off credit card of mine and when I contacted them, they wanted to set up payment arrangements. They said I could extend the payments for 6 months if I set up post-dated payments with them, but I did not, so they wanted their money in a months time. If not, they said it will go to court for a judgement and then they could garnish my wages.
