I had a collection agency (Associated Credit Services) calling me and sending me letters. I validated the debt over the phone, and in a letter to that collection agency. The last letter they sent me gave me 30 days to pay off the account "or they would be forced to return your account to our client in order that they may determine whether or not to proceed with further action". Before that 30 days was up another collection agency (J.C. Christnsen and Associates) sends me a letter (30 days to validate the debt letter)on the same debt, starting the whole process over again (the typical . Did the letter I sent to the original debt collector restart the SOL? Why would the original debt collector just give up if I had reset the SOL. Thanks

Asking for debt validation does not restart the SOL. It's renewed only when you make a payment or give a commitment to pay the account within the allotted time.

Since your account has already passed from one company to another, make sure that you send your money to the right place. It's not possible for both companies to have your account at the same time. You must get everything in writing and a PIF letter after the account is paid.

If you don????????t agree to the account information given in the letter, write a dispute letter highlighting the incorrect item. They must verify it with the original creditor before attempting further collections.
