Here's the situation, I had an account with hsbc fell behind in payments they sold it to a collection agency called atlantic when I contacted atlantic they said they sold it to Collect America, on the 20th when I tried calling yesterday, they have an automated machine where you enter your account number or social, but it doesn't come up, so i can't get in contact with anybody, Collect America hasn't called yet, but I am expecting the worse becuz I've heard about how nasty they are, What do you all recommend I do???

I would send this letter to them certified return receipt.

Check your latest credit copy for any reporting from the collection company. You need to contact them and get the account details. debt validation is the legal weapon by which you can confirm the legitimate practice of any collection agency.

If they are not authorized to report, their item should be disputed and removed from your file. Do all the communication in writing and send the letters through CRMRRR. This will serve as proof of your actions.
