Anyone hear of these people before? I got a letter in the mail today which is a Notice of Privacy Policy of CA Holding, Inc. I found out there name is Collect America. This letter talks about Security Standards and sharing information they collected. Anyone ever get this letter? Could they have bought my debt from Zwicker and Assoc.? I am confused.

Here is their contact info for headquarters per their web site.

Headquarters:
370 17th Street
Denver, CO 80202
Telephone: 303.296.3345
Toll Free: 800.478.5541

The letter you received is a privacy notice all creditors are required to send to their customers per rules of the federal trade commission. There is a good chance that they now own your debt.

I received one of these too....very vague info about themselves with NO true contact info or explaination about the company except it read like they are protecting my privacy rights and the website to use to ensure "privacy", with all the legal mumble-jumble about how they have special cookies and things that won't track you on-line - BS if I ever heard it...I am treating it as a scam, and if they bought my debt - good luck to them 'cause I just got my Federal Stimulus Releif (just like GM and Chrysler) in the legal way...Chapter 7. Bub-bye!!!

I got one of these privacy notices too. There was a phone # of 800.478.5541, When called the automated voice wanted SS# and/or Account #. So with that, not knowing the the heck these people are, I hung up. However, I will call later in the day to talk to someone. It's too early in the morning... they aren't open yet...perhaps. At any rate, they will have to tell ME what they want not me give them any information. I will up date as soon as I talk to someone there.

Do not, under any circumstances, give them (or anyone) your personal information! It's OK to confirm/deny information they already have, but don't let them phish for more.

:confused:I am unsure why the vultures insist on circling at such a vulnerable point in every one's lives. Where has common humanity gone these days? Do these ass-holes KNOW the state of the economy? Or do they even care? Do they realize that suicides rates are through the roof right now thanks to pricks like this? People are trying to feed their families-**** debt collectors!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Let's keep it clean, OK? - Uncle Wulf

I received a letter from these folks for someone I don't even know. I asked my husband and it turns out that it was the maiden name of his former wife whose debt collection letters/phonecalls we have been receiving here at MY house for the past 4 years where she's never lived. I was going to call these folks to tell them as I've told other collectors that she doesn't live here, and has never lived here, but their message box is full. I guess I'll just return this letter. But,we get soooo many of them. It's tiring. Advice?

Score! They've sent you a letter. This is a Good Thing. You now have their address. Go ahead and return the letter they sent, but follow it up with a cease-and-desist letter of your own, enjoining them from ever contacting you again, for any reason. Send it certified mail, return receipt requested.

Mne... Can you let me know what letter you're speaking about?

Mao... If you had included the debt in your bankruptcy filing and then got it discharged, then the debt collector won't be able to come after you. If they do so, it will be considered as fraudulent. You should contact your bankruptcy attorney and check out what steps you can take in this regard.

Just got the letter at a rental house of mine.
Funny thing though, it's addressed to my mother who has been deceased for ten years now.

Generally, it means at some point you defaulted on a loan, whether secured or unsecured (like a credit card, personal loan, a repo'd car loan, etc). The original lender has already written the debt off as a loss. Outside companies, often buy these written off debts at pennies on the dollars and attempt to collect on them. Any money they collect is their profit. There are certain notices, like of privacy, they must send to the last known address. One reason to notify you of the privacy acts, but two, and mainly to, to try to track you down. Trashing was good-assuming you dont want to resolve the debt. If you're working an "over the table job" and they find you, they will or can pursue to garnish your wages (with the right legal steps). That's when you'd get the details of who the original lender was. You did well by trashing it. F*ck'em. Haha. Unless you're trying to fix your credit, different story then.
