If they don't validate,they can't collect.Since it is not on your report,there is no way to speed up the process. All the fdcpa says if you dispute,they must validate before continuing the claim. There is no specific time limit to validate as long as they don't try to collect or report to the credit bureaus.

Welcome to the Forums :D I'm not sure what state you are from, but my guess,it's out of the SOL period. I would send a follow up letter and send it certified, return receipt. Keep copies of all correspondence you send also. I have been trying to get a company to validate for over a year now-with no response. Good Luck-keep us posted..KAren

Debt validation letter
I received a letter back from the collection agency, but it only has prior account number, the original creditor and they amount they say I owe. The validation letter included the follow request, but they did not supply the information. Is that all they need to send or do they need to send the proof and the last payment I made, if this is indeed my debt.?
Explain and show me how you calculated what you say I owe;
Provide me with copies of any papers that show I agreed to pay what you say I owe;
Provide a verification or copy of any judgment if applicable;
Identify the original creditor;
Prove the Statute of Limitations has not expired on this account
Show me that you are licensed to collect in my state
Provide me with your license numbers and Registered Agent

I believe they only have 30 days to respond to a debt validation request. Go to ftc.gov and search debt validation. I know I seen 30 days there, dealing with this myself.

fedupinpa, the 30 days you're thinking of - is that once the CA sends their notice, the debtor has 30 days to dispute or else it can be assumed to be valid by the CA. Like cajun said, they don't have to validate it; they just cannot make any more collection attempts until they do validate it.
validation received, but not pertinent info
I eceived the so called Validation, but it only consisted of BofA/Diwia, an account number the last 4 digits of my social and a message telling me to call them. the did not put down the purchase date of the collection nor the last payment made on the so called account. I am sending them yet another validation letter telling adding a form for them to fill out with pertinent information needed to resolve the matter. I am pl4short, but can't figure out how to sign back in with right info.

Send them a follow up DV letter, like you said. They may not validate, mine hasn't and it has been a year of DV letters and follow ups!!..Good Luck..Karen

Sounds as if this is a purchased debt. This sort of collector can rarely prove anything, other than they have a debt with your name attached. Many don't respond to a validation letter, and then perhaps up to a year letter, you will get another letter from them, or the will sell the debt to someone else. Some will send a letter as the one you described, with name, account number, and the amount you allegedly owe. That's because all collectors rely on -one- court, which desided that's all they need to send you. Others differ though.
They legally cannot put this on your CR because they have not validated the alleged debt.
It sounds like you've been doing the right things.
