Allied Interstate and current debt owed/harrassment each wk

I have a current debt of approximately $3000.00 from an Amex CC that was turned over to AI. I have had some large medical bills and have had some difficulty lately paying this bill on time. AI has been calling my home at least 3 times a week for the past 2 months. I have had them to automatically draft 2 payments of $600 and $265 respectfully within the past month to get the account "current" and not turn me over to the legal department.
The first payment that I authorized for $600 was a nightmare!! They withheld 2 payments of $600 instead and overdrew my bank acct! This left me scrambling to have the bank reverse the charges and pay the overdraft charges. I contacted AI the next day and asked to speak with a supervisor since the service representative could not answer my question as to whether or not AI would reimburse me for the overdraft charges. I was told the supervisor was in a "meeting" and given an email address to send my question. The supervisor never responded to me by email but the collections agent, Michael O'Leary that I had been dealing with about the automatic payment called me back and said the second debt was my fault because I authorized it online. I told this very rude man that I went in on the Amex website to check the balance but I never authorized another payment. He said that I owed them another payment of $600 since I had the second debit charges reversed but told me that they did receive the first payment that he recorded me authorizing over the phone. AI agents are very rude and do not want to work with me to collect the debt. I am single and am paying my own bills. What do I do? They are "hounding" me almost everyday! I know I owe the debt and I am not trying not to repay but they are noncooperative unless you abide by their terms.

I would first start off by asking for the proof they have that you authorized another payment on line...They should have a record of this if this is the case. SEcondly, if they cannot offer your proof, I would seek legal aid because I know where i live if a creditor sets up payment arragnements with you and then botches it they are responsible for any od charges to our account if they cannot proof that they are not at fault....
