The debt that will not go away/Gerald E. Moore/Asset

I managed to get Gerald Moore off my back, or so I thought.
After waiting and waiting for my validation of debt from Gerald E. Moore last June 2006, it never came and nobody called me, so I figured ok they finally figured it out, I dont owe them crap.
Tonight I get a phone call from Genessee Valley Associates in NY, now wanting $5000 for the supposed $2500 debt.
Told them I will not talk to them until I see some proof in writing from them. They asked me what bank I banked with, told them, none of your business, prove I owe the debt. Woman was actually civilized on the phone, but I still trust no one. Funny thing is she was willing to take $1500 on the spot, even said I could pay $100 for 15 months, told her fine send me papers reading to that effect and I will call you back.
Is is possible that my debt has once again been sold to someone else??

Yes it is very possible but do not send them a dime until they validate this in writing, otherwise you pay it and some years down the road another collection agency can purchase it and you will be asked to pay it agaiN!
