I would think they could assign someone the right to sue in US court.The only court I know that does cases with other countries would be a US Federal district court. I also think the credit bureaus would probably transfer your credit report to the American offices. That is about all I know on this subject. Consult a lawyer with international experience.

Go through the contract copy you signed with the credit card company. If they have their branch offices in US, they will try to recover the money even if you are not staying in UK.
Get the complete information of your account in writing from the collection agency. You need to figure out that they are having the correct details about you. At first, they may not be willing to send you anything in writing. Make them aware that any CA collecting on a debt in US is bound to follow the federal laws during collections. Check them with your state AG if they are a licensed business in your state.

Well I cannot imagine that just because you moved to a new country your debt went away...I would assume that they can still pursue you for a debt you owed whether you are in UK, US or Mexico...Cuz if that was the case wouldn't we all just jump on the next plane out of our country to get out of debt?? I dunno though
