Jimmy from First Platinum Corp calling about a cc debt
Date: Thu, 04/12/2007 - 09:37
Ok so yesterday as I was getting ready to go to work the phone rings.....My oldest daughter answers the phone and some man says "Hi J., This is Jimmy". My daughter asks who he is and he says his name is Jimmy and could he please speak with me "She knows who I am." So she hands me the phone since she thinks its our old neighbor who's name is Jimmy. I get the phone and he says, " Hi this is Jimmy from First Platinum Corp. I was calling about your CC debt with....." So I explain to him that I am willing to pay the debt but that Hubby and I are trying to get a Home Eq loan to try and pay off all our CC's. He states that's wonderful! (No Sh** Sherlock!) So tells me that in order to keep the CC company happy I need to make some kind of payment to show good faith. OK I understand that... He then asks what bank we are working with to get the loan. Not thinking I tell him the name of the bank and the name of the loan officer. (Mind you I'm in a hurry to get to work since I have to be there in 30 min.) So then he tells me to show good faith I have to give him a check by phone for $100.00. (I have been looking things up on the net about this and everything I've read says thats a big NO-NO) so I tell him to give me an address and I will send a check or better yet if they have an account with either Western Union or Money Gram I will send the money that way. Boy did his attitude change really quick after that! NO we NEED to have your payment NOW WITH CHECK BY PHONE! Nope not going to happen! He then tells me thats why no Collections agency will work with me since I'm trying to nigociate with them when I am the one at fault! So finally after 15 min of telling him that I will not give him a check by phone he gives me the info so I can send a payment by Money Gram. So I make my happy way to work and I'm not there 20min when the phone rings and it's the loan officer from the bank! He called her and told her that he wanted to know that statis of my loan since I owe them money and and am waiting for the the loan to come to pay them off! Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't that in violation of the fdcpa laws? I thought that they were not allowed to contact anyone about my debt except me!
The Number he gave me was 1-800-760-8982. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. What should I do? Send the payment or what?
Thanks J.

Thanks Steelers......I was thinking the same thing. So what should my next step be? Should I send the money or what? I know I owe the debt. I only owed 8K on it then called and told them that my hours were cut at work from 32hr per week to 16hrs and I didn't have the money to pay the whole payment and if there was any way we could work out a payment plan for it. They said no problem and said I wasn't going to have to pay late fees or interest on the account since I was trying to pay the balance down to make the payments lower. After paying $160.00 a month for 12mths I get a statement that shows a new balance of $13,200.00! I call and asked them about it and they said they were "holding" the interest and late fees for one year and since the new balance was over the limit on the card I now had to pay the over limit fees as well! Grrrrr
So Do I send a payment or wait to see if we get the loan or what? We are also thinking of getting debt consolidation or debt settlement....We're not sure which is better. Any suggestion?

Since the debt is valid, you will have to pay it anyway. But make sure that you report all their federal violations about sharing your personal information with the bank to your state AG and the FTC. The Ag's office will investigate them further.
You can also include your debts in one of the dmp program at affordable interest rates and lower monthly installments. The counselor will handle the collectors and you won't receive any collection calls.

New update on same problem.....
so now everyday at work the CA is calling asking for me... I have told them repetedly that I am not allowed to take calls at work and still they call. The number they give me to call them back is a no go since it doesn't exsist and they will not give me a new number where they are from or an address to send them money. Yesterday I was at work and I answered the phone and guess who it was they ask for me and I said that I wasn't there since I was waiting on a customer and didn't want to get into with them in front of them and damned if the man doesn't say "She told me to call her at work after 5pm" I repeted that "She" wasn't at work and then he asks for a manager at this point a say sure no problem and hang up on him. What can I do to stop him from calling me at my job when all I get from him is that he's from Platinum Corp and he won't give me any other info.
