Hi,
I received a letter from a debt collector saying that I owe money from a store credit card. According to my records the last bill I received from the store credit company was paid and I have the canceled check. I absolutley have no idea what this debt is for. They are no willing to give me a transaction history since the last statement I have. And they are not willing to help me identify what this debt is for, they can not tell me. Everything I ask them they say "PROBABLY WHAT HAPPENED WAS" they can't say anything CERTAINLY. Any help would be appreciated.

I would sent them a validation letter in the mail(certified with returnreceipt) I believe you can find one in the DIY section of this forum, and then wait for their response. They have to be able to validate your debt in order to collect it and I would not take a probably what happened was statement from any collector.

You are not required to send money to the CA until they have confirmed the details in writing. Get the debt validated because this comes under your legal consumer rights and they must follow it.

Since you already have the proof of the account being paid, I believe you have to write a dispute letter if they give you anything in writing.
