I recieved a phone call this morning from a collection agency asking for my husband I said hes not here right now can I take a message. She said well who is this I'm speaking with his wife.I replied. Does it matter who you are speaking with he is not here right now I will take a message and give it to him. She replied look you don't have to get smart with me this is a personal business phone call. And then SHE hung up on me. I know it was a collection agency because she has called before. I know what bill she is calling for to however she never says her name or says the name of the place she works for. Is this proper collection agency manners? Next time they call I will just ignore the phone. Can I complain about it? Personally I feel I was in the right He wasn't home I wasn't lying to her ugg please advice anyone!

There are no manners in her low life world. Just attempts to intimidate. You should hang up on her. They hang up when they can't answer you.

I am sure if she disclosed the information to you then your hubby would have come here and posted a query:

Quote:

"is it right for a collection agency to disclose my debt information to someone else? she called up and my wife picked up the phone. when my wife asked her what's the purpose of the call, she gave all my debt information to her! tell me how can i sue them!"

What the collectors can do then? If they disclose the matter then it's a violation and if they don't then also. Please be logical.

You can try to complain about it, but realistically, it won't do any good. In my office, some calls were passed to us managers, but honestly, in that situation, we were there to calm the debtor down, and continue collections. Some managers would be even more rude than the regular agents.

To answer the quote in the prior post, a collector can discuss the debt with the spouse, the exception being if the debtor resides in a certain state (or a handful of states, but it's very few).
