Sounds like it's bordering on harassment, but proving it is an entirely different story. Send your payments, I doubt a collection agency will actually refuse cash in hand. Next step, send a letter that informs them that they are only permitted to contact you by mail, and send it certified mail. The letter should help you cut the crap. If they continue to call beginning the day after receipt, sue them for fdcpa violations. Have you already been provided with validation of the debt?

The collectors are there supposedly to help you settle the debt--and this doesn't mean that they can harass you and make personal attacks. They have no right to pass judgement on you. If they say that again say "You are calling me about my debt and making snide comments is inappropriate and I will hang up if it continues".

Sounds like they are trying to skirt around name-calling, which would be a violation of the FDCPA. Seems what they are trying to imply is the word "deadbeat". If legal in your state, record the conversations from now on.
