I am trying to turn my life around, and my parents have offered to help me, provided I can provide them with written statements of my debt. I would rather deal with the original creditors rather than the CA that are calling me now. Is that possible? When I call them, what do I say? I don't really need debt validation, as I know the debts are mine, I just need them to send me a statement, or letter, kind of like when the debt was not past due. Am I crazy, or can this be done?

Guest, I have found it possible to deal with the original creditors in some cases. Credit cards mostly. I would sign up and join this site and take the free counseling call. It cant hurt. These people deal with debt issues dailey and hopefully can negotitate on your behalf. It never hurts to know what all your options are. Take Care Best Wishes KYSIDE38

What type of debt are you talking about? kyside is giving you good advice on dealing with a counselor, especially if you are hesitant on dealing with these creditors. If you don't know what you have out there, you can pull a free copy of your credit report, just go to annualcreditreport.com and you can get free copy from each of the credit reporting agencies, at least you would have a place to start. The report will give you credit name, address, phone number and last balance owed. Goodluck and keep us posted.
