My wife and I have tried contacting AMEX for about 8 months. We have a Blue card with a high amount owwed. My wife lost her job and we tried to come up with a payment plan with AMEX, close the card, etc. They refused to talk to us. We used a debt management company for a VISA card and we now have a manageable monthly payment. AMEX still refuses to talk to us or the management company. They just keep using the same old collection companies and are still piling on insane interest and late charges that we can't even pay the monthly minimum on. Any advice? We can't refinance, borrow, etc.....we want to pay off AMEX with a fixed monthly payment over 5 years...HELP!

Or you can put up a settlement offer to the collection agency collecting on behalf of Amex. Be sure that you are paying to the right CA and they have your account information from Amex. After your settlement offer is accepted, don't forget to get the SIF in writing and your account is updated with the bureaus.

I had a gold card for ten years and paid an average 1500 per month on time everytime. When I ran into difficulties AMEX would not work with me and turned me into a 3rd party collection. Great appreciation there. Recently when I stopped paying the third party, amex had me back again. They just called. Thanks for telling me about Oasis. How can they take back my debt after charging it off? It is on my credit report as charged off. I will be back stronger than ever but I will never use AMEX again.
