BEWARE these people. They refuse to follow any semblance of the federal laws. Between 28 April and 2 May, they called my house nearly THIRTY TIMES. Still dont even know what they are calling for! They have this wonderful habit of calling, say at 8:31 am....then again at 8:32 am....then at 8:37 am.....then at 8:49 am....then at 9:02 am....you get the idea. I go to work each day to come home to a caller ID filled with their various numbers. This is so clearly a major violation of federal law....and at up to $1000 per incident, this is gonna be fun!! This is going to end up going to litigation, and I already have plans to subpoena my local phone company records--so that I can document each and every time they broke the law concerning harassment tactics. My wife is really something--when we decided to document all of this, she did everything. We now have super-detailled spreadsheets on this company. She has even taken photographs of all the recent caller ID entries, clearly showing the date and time of each call we received over the last week. The total is over thirty calls in a week. And there were two days this week where they did not call at all....

I also just discovered that they are not registered to perform any debt collection work in Louisiana, as required by LA state law. Even if they registered right now, they have still been in violation for all this time, and they have apparently been calling my phone for the last several months. When I do not recognize the number, I dont answer the phone. So far, we have found something like a half dozen different numbers that trace back to this company.

If anyone here is dealing with these morons, let me know. I would highly recommend that you document the calls this way, and also check your state laws concerning lilcensing for debt collectors, chances are good that if they dont register here, they probably dont do it in other places as well.

LTD Financial Services is horrible, but you CAN fight them. They are ruthless and will drive you bonkers, but stick to your guns and demand compliance with fdcpa. I had a problem with them as well and have a pending suit against them. They called my home, my parents home, my neighbors, several strangers in my city with the same last name. When they finally sent me what they termed "validation," it included some of their own documents, including a call list with the names and numbers of the above mentioned people. I called them about it and was passed to about 12 people before a woman (smacking gum...is that standard?) said I needed to send that back to them as it is a "confidential legal document." Sure...yeah...I'm going to do that. I told her no that I would be putting this with everything else and presenting it to Legal Aid (I can't afford an attorney). The Legal Aid representative created a portfolio and said I had a legitimate case, but we instead filed complaints with the Texas AG, New York AG and the FTC. He also contacted an agency (I forgot the name) that oversees debt collectors. I received the most correspondance from the Texas AG. They were pretty aggressive and LTD has never contacted me again.

Oh but the stories I could tell you. The people were so unbelievably condescending and pushy. They denied calling anyone but me. They said they send proper validation. If you call and they don't answer, about 5 seconds after you hang up, they call back. They must have a tracking system. I gave them my cell phone number and said that is the only number they could reach me. They called in excess of 30 times a day...every 20 minutes or so. Then a couple of weeks after I contacted the AG, everything stopped.

The debt (which was only about $1000) was sent to another agency that was very easy to deal with and I paid it off in three payments.

All I say is know when people are not treating you fairly and respecfully. You know what you owe and what you can pay. If it is your debt, pay it. If not, you need to stick to the agencies and follow through completely.

yeah, I will be fighting them. Sending out the cease and desist letter and the validation letter this week via certified mail RRR, and we will go from there. I will keep everyone updated as to the results, but at this point I am already getting ready for a battle, thanks to the massive number of telephone calls I keep getting. I am not certain yet what the penalty is for an unregistered company conducting business in my state, but I will find that out tomorrow when I contact the LA secretary of state office--they oversee that issue.

The kept calling my home about two different debts that a man (Sr.) and his son (jr.) that share my name have outstanding. Apparently the Dad and the Son share and alternate SSN's.

They first called and demanded my social..which I refused. What, do they think I am an amateur? Anyway, I refused to verify any information except that the name, addy, ssn, etc. that these clowns had wasn't my information. Each time, they would say they updated my records but then call back.

So I just really abused the collector each time she would call. Depends on whether my kids were within earshot how badly I would do it. But I had fun with it.

They called twice on Easter Saturday morning, once at 9:01 and once at 9:03 AM. So I sent them a cease and desist letter and whadda you know. Turns out that after months of calls, they just happened to send me a letter of validation the day they received mine. What a coincidence.

On that letter, they gave me the Citi credit card number and cardholder information. So I resent my letter as a response to theirs (just to cover my legal bases). I also called the collector when I was slow at work to just harass the hell out of her. She kept saying "I took your number off, everything is fine". So I kept calling.

Oh, I also filed several complaints with the FTC and the GA Governor's Office of Consumer Affairs (very aggressive at protecting us).

I then called Citi and demanded the President's email address. I settled for his admin assistant's addy. I read them the riot act about empowering collection agencies to break the FFDCPA on their behalf and told them if I was ever contacted by these people again, I would sue Citi and LTD. To my SURPRISE, I received a very apologetic letter back from the President of Citi notifying my that his office had contacted the management AND the specific collector at LTD and ensured me I wouldn't be contacted again.

These people are scum. I have no doubt they are contacting people with the same name trying to harass them into paying debts that are not owed.

I am hoping they will contact me about the other debt that these idiots opened up from Tractor Supply Co. Then it will be real fun time.
