Asset management professionals - has any one dealt with this agency?
Date: Fri, 09/21/2007 - 15:24
They knew his social security number and where he works. The check is in his name only, but my parents have only one account and they share it. The bank the check is from is not their bank, and has never been their bank.
I cannot find any information about this AMP place. I found one post on here about it, but the replies seemed to suggest that it's a legitmate agency. If anyone has any information about AMP, please respond.
Thank you!

I have looked at this post over and over trying to figure something out for u. Just now it hit me that maybe it's someone with a similar or same name as ur dad! they can do what they call skip tracing someone and that may be how they got his address and other info.
I wud contact them and tell them this is NOT him!! And he has NEVER had an acct with this bank, so they must have the wrong person!
Good Luck and let us know how it goes!

Maybe ID theft? I'd file a police report about it. That should at least put the breaks on AMP for a while.

I just got a call exactly like that. They said they were trying to collect a debt but when I would not give them any information and I started asking them questions he hung up on me? I drfinitely think they are a scam trying to get your personal info. It looks like there really is a Co. by that name so maybe they are just using that name. I definitely think they are looking to steal your identity and it is a scam!!!
Asset Management Professionals
I got a call from them on Friday, June 19th, 2009 and thought it was a scam too but I had just seen a new credit alert on my credit report about the credit card that they were calling about. I was dumb enough to give them my bank info because they knew to much about this card and me. When I gave them my bank routing number, they knew the name of the bank. I dealt with simular collection agencys last year and they were all for real. My debts were slowly eliminated from the three major credit bureaus 45 to 90 day's after I paid them and my credit score started to rise. I hope these people are for real or I'm going to go nuts.

AMP IS NOT A SCAM IN FACT. THEY ARE NOW STARTING TO COLLECT ON JUDGMENT PAPER. SO IF SOMEONE CALLS YOU FROM THIS COMPANY YOU MIGHT WANNA GET THE MATTER RESOLVED IN A TIMELY MANNER AND OR RISK HAVING YOUR PAY GARNISH AND OR THEIR CLIENTS FOR WHICH THEY COLLECT FOR PROCEED AGAINST U. GOOD LUCK AND JUST KNOW THAT TIMES ARE HARD FOR CREDIT CARD COMPANIES TOO AND THESE PEOPLE WANT THEIR MONEY BACK. THEY DON'T LEND IT SO THAT YOU GUYS CAN BLOG ABOUT THEM AND NOT PAY BACK AND NOT PAY THEM BACK!!!!

they called me today and did not have any info on me and ask me my name and wanted me to pay for a cc .i told them that i was taping them and they said that i can not do that ? and hung up funny i have never heard from them before today!!!!! and dont tell them any thing .yes they are a memmber of the bbb but it has no complaints on them so do not give them any info on you make them tell you who and what they want .like the man said they have to go to court to get a judgement to take your checks .and don't worry they can not go into you bank account. that is what i was told from the courts...
For Reals
This company is NOT a scam. I have been working with them for some time to resolve my debts. They can and will garnish wages. they can and will pursue whatever means necessary for collecting the debts owed. If the debt isn't something you believe you owe, simply try asking them for a fax of the documents they posses that show record of said person owing the debt. or, wait. they will eventually start garnishing your wages. Don't fool yourself.
Peace,
Marc

Today Asset Management Professionals disclosed all my personal info to my boyfriend over the phone, i did not give them authority to do so... my boyfriend is an intelligent man and recorded the conversation , he studied the fdcpa laws and contacted legal counsel today , in which AMP committed 9 violations of the FDCPA. I plan you contact the attorney general this week and file a complaint then suit against the company... maybe they should train their collectors who use scare tactics and illegal methods to attempt to recover old debt
I would NEVER talk to or NEVER pay AMP. They can't garnish wages
I would NEVER talk to or NEVER pay AMP. They can't garnish wages from me. Yeah, I think they buy old debts so people can blog about them. They can't expect to get paid.

Just got a call from AMP yesterday from caller ID; I never leave an answering machine on, but it's the same number posted above. I have not received any letters however.
The laws may not different per state, but where I live you have to be sued and a judgement against you has to awarded in court before your accounts can be garnished. Also, the consumer has 45 days to reply / appeal or workout payment arrangments if the debt is legit.
Does anyone know if there's a statue of limitations on any of these old debts they try to collect?

yes, is ussually 5 to 7 years from last acticity on your account.
AMP....... is a collection agency... first legally NO collection
AMP....... is a collection agency... first legally NO collection agency can garnish anything. 2nd to have a judgement, yes you have to be served. When they file the court automatically sends a certified copy of the suit to you which you have to sign for. They also have to file suit in the same county you opened the "account" in. Also, by law they have to advise you first that the call is being recorded....NOT LAST.... this is a violation of the FDCPA......... most of what they do is a violation of the FDCPA....... so if they call you.........don't give any info, make payment arrangements etc until they provide you with positive proof of the debt. OH... and by the way AMP is not accredited with the BBB.
I also received a call from them on 8/13/10 regarding credit car
I also received a call from them on 8/13/10 regarding credit card debt. I sent them a debit validation certifed letter, what should I do if they come back with correct validation?

This company has called me numerous times for a person who is not known to me. I have told them over and over. They keep saying they will take my number out of their data base but after a few months, I start getting the calls again. Now they have me on an automated calling system that calls some mornings at 7:58, even on Saturdays. When I try to call them back, I get a recording about waiting for the next available representative and after a while it disconnects. I am pulling my hair out. Any suggestions?

Your so correct. AMP can't sue you. What they will do is send it back to their client (since they are a third party) as a refusal to pay and then the client will sue you ass. Garnish your wages, or if you own any property attach it to that. I love how pathetic the majority of people on these forums are. You bitch and moan about past "debts" that most of the TIME you agreed to. So in actuality your a thief. You get merchandise or services and then don't pay for them, ie stealing. The best thing you can do with a debt that you owe is settle it before they obtain a legal judgement. Above guy thinks he's smart because he's a mod. He's not. If they already have a legal judgment they are just trying to voluntarily collect a debt from you. If you refuse then it gets sent back to the client and they garnish you. Know this your better off settling your debts than a Consumer Credit service. You can get the debt down to 50% of the amount owed if you negotiate with them long enough. AND STOP SIGNING YOUR NAME AND BUYING THINGS IF YOU CANT AFFORD THEM.
In actuality you an an idiot. Ever heard of the economy tanking
In actuality you an an idiot. Ever heard of the economy tanking? People loosing their jobs? A thief would be defined as someone taking something with out INTENT to pay....almost everyone here had that intent but a recession shrunk the job market. Many bought services when they could afford them...yes they agreed to them but given the choice of eating and keeping a roof of their heads...well what would you do?? In a lot of cases there are scam CA's out their that are collecting on debts that are out of SOL meaning they are time barred. So climb back into your hovel and maybe read a newspaper....see what is really happening in the world.
B.S.
AMP is a third party collector who bought the bad debt for pennies on the dollar and trying to make a profit of the bad debt. The credit card has already got their monies when it gets to this stage and they write it off. Many of these credit card companies are like pop-up stores they hit, make money, and sell out to another credit card company. Don't bullshot a bullshotter. ;)

This is definitely a scam ... All those positive messages here only came from criminals as well...my husband has a good credit and yet they're telling us that he has a debt and they're trying to collect info. So they can steal money from my husband. They are so stupid.

I just pulled my yearly credit report and saw this company had requested a copy of it in December. I have absolutely NO debt and paid any past debt that I had on time, which is reflected on my CR. I do not understand why they would request a copy of my credit report?!? I get why credit card companies such as Bank of America or Capital One request it, they are always sending me crap promising me the souls of their children if I would just take one of their credit cards at a 29% interest rate. CRAZY!
Anyway, any ideas why this company would be requesting my personal info? Thanks!

AMP have been calling my house for a couple of years now for some one NOT from our household and not one of the previous owners. In last couple months it's been almost daily and I got tired of listening and deleting those vmails. I called them and explained that they have a wrong number on file and that I'd like not to be harassed by their calls no more. They said No problem we will delete the number from our system... That was to easy to be true... I guess I'll wait and see if I get anymore calls from them...

the information listed about wage garnishment and related is INACCURATE. It is ILLEGAL to threaten wage garnishment and if they do this do like me, file a lawsuit for creditor harrassment. There are a vareity of "offenses" and they can be fined a minimum of $1000 for. I had someone call my brother, my daughter, my work, and my mother and each one they called is a $1000 fine. I have an attorney who works on a "contingency fee" basis and he is taking my case. So far the creditor I am suing has racked up $9000 in fines and I'm just sitting back while they continue to rack up fines.....whomever wrote that comment must be an employee of either Asset Management or one of the other debt collectors. Google the Federal Credit Report Act or the Federal Debt Collection Protection ACt under section 805-807:rolleyes:.

I'm currently dealing with these retards, They've recently bought a stale debt of mine. They're a third party debt collector who buy bad debts for pennies on the dollar and then bully and scare the people into paying them to make a profit. 99% of the s**t they say isn't true. They said they were going to sue me and yada yada ya... but I looked up the statue of limitations in my state and legally they can't even use the courts as a tool to remedy the situation. Don't let these phone jockies fool you, and whatever you do NEVER give anyone your banking information over the phone, pay by cashiers/money order if need be, I guarantee if they want your money that bad, they'll cash it. And to Mellisa the so called "collections manager" NICE TRY!
Not illegal to threaten garnishment.
It is only illegal for a CA to threaten legal action or garnishment if they can not garnish wages or the company / client has no intention of doing so. It should also be noted that third party CAs normaly do not buy paper. They collect for the people who do.
If the can sue you than it is not illegal to say that they will take you to court. If there is a judgement in place and garnishment is a legal possibility than they can threaten garnishment.
Providing personal info to a known third party is pretty bad and a really big fine.
Depending on your state you may be in trouble for recording the conversation without telling the other party on the phone they are being recorded. Not true in all states but in most you have to inform them that you are recording the call.
If its not your debt tell them so. If it is not you debt but under your SSN than demand proof of debt and file a police report for identity theft. They may try to tell you that it is too late to file a report and your responsible. That's BS and I'm sure you understand why. It is good to note that if a family member or friend used your ID to set up an account and you refuse to prosecute than a judge may still hold you liable for the debt.
I was a debt collector for a long time when I needed a job after the economy took a giant dump and learned a lot about the business, the laws and how they are applied.
Demand proof of the debt.
If old debt out of SOL or not yours than send them a registered letter demanding that they cease and desist collection activity.
If the debt is yours and within SOL you can negotiate for a much lower ammount that the original ammount. As low as 20% in some cases.
Do not provide your bank account info. If they are a real company they will always take out the exact ammount you agree upon but the risk of a data entry error or a bad rep could drain your account and it will take months in some cases to get the problem fixed.
Pay with a pre-paid CC like Visa Vanilla. Load the ammount you intend to pay. That way they are not able to hit your card for mor than the secificed ammount.
One last thing. Do not blow a whistle or air horn into the phone. The rep most likely hates his/her job and they are making crap wages and most likely have little or no medical coverage. Plus, I have seen one case where hearing damaged was bad enough that the rep lost some hearing. The rep was able to successfully sue the person rsponsable for medical costs, lost wages, pain and suffering and legal fees. It's really not worth it and will not stop the calls.
