Yes it was very good. I thought they did a wonderful job investigating and confronting them!

One thing I don't understand, and this is regarding that one CA in Buffalo, NY owned by the criminal that has been arrested for armed robbery, is given the thoroughness of DateLine's investigation and the fact they had hidden camera evidence of employees at that CA HORRIBLY violating the law, why doesn't law enforcement just raid that place and arrest everyone there and the company's owners? I mean these were not just "honest mistakes" made by CA employees and management. You've got one guy posing as an attorney, undercover film of him collecting money from Western Union, an undercover film clip of a woman telling a debtor they are going to be arrested. All these violations were blatant!

the really funny part was when DateLine shows back up with their cameras out for all to see and some of the employees at that company all scatter like roaches. The sad part was that some of the employees just continued making calls, like they were more intent on shaking down debtors that they were oblivious to what was going on behind them.

From everything I saw, this seemed no different than the Mafia shaking down people for "protection money"; it just smacked of organized crime!

Are the authorities in Buffalo that backwards, when they see film of this going on, they don't act on it? Where is the FBI? These people are crossing state lines, on the phone, and even disguising their phone numbers, while posing as law enforcement, to shake down people for money.

If I went out today and posed as a police officer, threatening to write people tickets for speeding; however, I would let it all go if the driver would give me $100, I would be locked up so fast my head would spin! In my opinion, what the crooks at that CA are doing is absolutely no different!

I bet, now they have appeared on DateLine and people know their address, this company will just close up in that location and move to another one.

regarding the DATELINE REPORT LAST NIGHT..
May I suggest that we all send a certified letter to the NEW YORK STATE ATTORNEY GENERAL, copy to your congressman in your state as well as the GOVERNORS OFICE IN NEW YORK and flood them with COMPLAINTS about the collection industry and their blatant violation of the laws.
Folks, REMEMBER that a UNITED EFFORT will carry much more weight than an individual complaint....especially when the powers to be recieves hundreds if not thousands of complaints in the mail !

Or how about sending letters to each & every state to complain about collection violations. Or perhaps President Obama himself - - he does seem to have a genuine concern over the little guy. So many things to point out too:

Junk Debt Buyers: Some junk debt buyers are convicted felons??? Wrong on so many levels. How 'bout some regulation w/these clowns - think about it - they buy your old debt for pennies on the dollar with the intent to defraud you out of your money by scaring you into paying. I say "defraud" because I believe I've heard here many times that junk debt buyers are only entitled to collect what they actually paid to own your debt - which would be pennies on the dollar, not the prior amount you owed to someone else. They bank on you not knowing your rights & paying up - if you are smart and challenge them they often give up because now you are wasting their time.

CC Arbitration: Another scam. I saw a report on this recently, but can't remember where. The reported stated that something like 90% of the time the cc company is awarded, not the consumer, because cc arbitration is truely there to benefit the cc industry. Consumers think they are going to arbitration with a fair chance, but it is really a biased scam against them.

CC Regulation: In that special last night I thought I heard them say that credit card companies are not regulated. I think they are a huge contributor to the economic mess we are in. I can't believe they are not regulated - does anyone know if that's indeed true? If it is true they need to be regulated - if it isn't it's time the regulations change so people are not drowing in debt crafted by the cc industry so they can be rich.

Anya, many thanks for that link! I watched it and the part where the reporter was in the boiler room literally turned my stomach.
But how interesting when confronted with this report, the attorney for the trade group tried to pass it off as just a rogue shop, when we all know for a fact that this isn't the case. Do the words "Bass and Associates" ring a bell for anyone? Now that these collectors are out of a job, I wonder if they will be getting calls from their former coworkers, lol.
What it boils down to is this: everyone in that report was looking for a big payday, and they didn't care that they had to break the law to get it--and they knew they were breaking the law, because look how fast they got out of there when Dateline came in!

These links show the tactics used, they detail one specific illegal collection call, they go inside with hidden camera, and then they go back "officially on camera" for an explanation....

Disgusting. This makes me so mad I just want to spit. On them, actually. They scared that couple so bad they fled their house! That woman was pregnant! Stress like that could have had serious repercussions on her pregnancy or even endangered the life of her unborn!!!

I am so serious about that, because one of my pregnancies was in a threatened condition. I had to go to the dr ever week (sometimes more) for an injection to stop labor and I was barely in my 4th month. Dr. told me to avoid stressful situations. etc. Someone else in that condition, getting scared that bad and losing the baby...that is just out and out murder.

I am in full agreement that I can't believe law enforcement isn't taking those tapes and busting every last one of those...I can't think of a vile enough cuss word.

And the way those collectors were outside joking around. made me utterly sick. "I am the companies legal Liaison" (or whatever it was he said) and they all busted up laughing.

Or the one that said he liked to call the debtor's boss AT HOME...stressed how much he loved that! So this slimy slug likes to try and get people fired????

How can people DO this! I mean really? How can they stoop so low! They must be soulless, or worse, sold their souls to some evil entity. I usually never wish anyone ill, but I am so mad at these low life scum that I would not shed one tear were they all to suddenly drop dead or better then that....writhe in hellish pain and suffering from some flesh eating bacteria that ate away at them for months..no..years.....

I will add, however, that I like to completely name the collectors that did call me breaking the law in my suit cases. Makes it much more personal that way.

And the one thought I had beside revulsion watching those collectors in action, was that those were the kids who were always getting beaten up in high school and now they can play at being the big shots. Just my two cents...

I just watched it and wow!!! Seriously how do you work for a company like that? No morals? I find it truly amazing. I wish I could have been next to the reporter saying like bitch I have come to get you for calling my house! I know where you live now! Be afraid BE VERY AFRAID!

The??astonoshing thing is some of these collectors act as if they have never missed a payment. Or never been behind on a bill. One day they will get that dreaded call and then the tables will turn...LOL!

Yeah I love getting the calls. I record EVERY call that is made to my house. So these little fools can pay me some money.

This site and the special makes me so aware. Because honestly if I was unaware I would have been afraid. Its amazing what they think they can do. Its such bull ****. Honestly I want to pay my debts. I really do. I went over my head and then once I tried to get a hold of things the CC said we will raise everything on you and you can't get out of it. They pretty much had a monoply on everything and now they are seeing they are getting screwed also. I have no remorce for CC or CA's.
I did have one question when a CA Gets nasty with you can you swear at them and get nasty with them. Pretty much fight back and kind of be on there level and not get in trouble? I know we shouldn't sink to there level, but geez. I would love to go to that dooch bags house who they were supposed to send the check too and let him meet mr left and over hand right.

I have always played along with them. if they tell you the cops are coming for you, start acting scared, then when they get all serouis I just laugh as hard as I can. Or act like you are starting to cry (do this as long as you can) then when they start to feel sorry for you start laughing. This just pisses them off even more and you get a real good laugh from it.
