I am wondering if the debt collector who has it is reporting under the OC name. It says closed but still shows a balance. In my state, a collection agency cannot put an entry on a credit report in their name, only in the OC with written permission. I guess I will have to wait and see if I get anything in the mail, it has been almost a year since I seen anything.

Don't wait and see get proactive and investigate this yourself. Contact Macys via mail, see if they still hold the account. If they don't they will tell you who does.

That brings up a question that I have. I've recently gotten letters/calls, from CA about a debt that is, AT LEAST 10 years old. It's not even on my CR anymore. If a debt is THAT old, can a CA call NOW and collect the debt? I'm not saying i don't owe the debt, I'm just wondering if a CA actually had a 'limit of time that they have to call/stop calling about a debt.

No they can still call because technically you still owe the debt. The only thing that saves you is if the SOL has expired. If it has, they cannot sue you. They are hoping that you don't know this and will attempt to collect. All you have to do is send a full C & D and tell them the SOL has expired. Don't tell them the debt is yours.

MMmmm...I see. is this one of those things where, IF I do start making payments again, I can 'reset' the debt?
