Call the company that has the account listed...more than likely
Call the company that has the account listed...more than likely a collection company. Give them your name, your current mailing address and verify the last 4 digits of your social...you don't need to give them anything else. Inform them that you need the particulars of the account such as account number, amount owed, original creditor, etc.
Do not discuss the debt in question. Tell them upfront you simply want information on the account. If they ask you anything about the debt like if you ever had it, simply say "I do not recall". DO NOT be roped into a discussion..tell them you want the information and thats that.
