In a review of my credit I noticed that I have two collections from afni. One is from Alltel and the other BellSouth. I never paid these accounts since I knew once it is on my credit report any recent activity will only hurt my score.

I know that these accounts are mine but AFNI is RE DATING the accounts to the date that the acquired the account. One of the accounts was in 2004 and has had no payments on the account since but they are reporting to the credit bureau that the date of last activity and date opened is 03/08.

These two accounts caused my credit score to drop 54 points in one day. I have disputed them with the credit bureaus and they have said that the account is being correctly reported. Does anyone have advice about what I should do? debt validation letter? complaints to BBB, AG & FTC? Any other ideas?

Sarah

Those dates have no significance for credit rteporting time period. The only date that matters is the Date of First Default. An item can stay on th ereport for 7 years + 180 days from that date. Call the CRA's and ask for the DOFD on AFNI's tradeline as well as Altels and Bellsouths. The dates should match

I just pulled my credit report and they have changed the dates once again.

The first account is now showing:
Date of First Deliquency: 06/07
Date Major Deliquency first Reported: 08/08
Date Opened: 06/08
*This account was deliquent in 2004 and no activity has happened since

The 2nd account is showing:
Date of First Deliquency: 06/05 (this is correct)
Date Major Deliquency first Reported: 04/08 Date opened: 03/08

When I disputed it with the 3 credit bureaus they reported these new dates and my score dropped from 693 to 639 as a result. (I use a credit monitoring service) Should they be using the Date opened, Date of first deliquency or Date Major Deliquency First Reported?

Does anyone know which date is used to calculate your credit score? I am about to buy a house and really need my credit score to go back up.

Thanks in advance.
