I'm pretty sure I know how to handle this, but just would like some clarification.
I just received a bill from afni collection agency for what appears to be an old cell phone bill that belongs to my ex. I never had service with "Contel South", so I can only assume it's his. The bill is addressed to him, but came to my address. (He is several states away from me.)
Now, could this be happening because his SSN is still showing on my credit report? I have also received credit card offers in his name at my address, which I shredded and disposed of. I am in the middle of disputing his SSN being on my credit report - I assume it's only there because we were once married, but I don't ever want to be accused of using his SSN to obtain credit, and I darn sure don't want his SSN associated with my credit report.
Do I send them a cease and desist letter telling them this bill is not mine, and the person they're seeking doesn't live here? That's what my first instinct is, but I want to be sure I handle it correctly.
Thanks!

Sue,send C&D telling them to pound sand since they are dunning wrong person. Make sure and get those credit reports straightened out pronto so you don't end up suffering for his credit mistakes when they try to merge his and your files into one report. Holler if you need any help.

Thanks Cajun - I just wanted to be sure that I was sending the right letter. I haven't had to send too many letters (thank goodness) myself, so I wanted to be sure to get it right.

Suebee,
Be fast in disputing with the bureaus about your ex's SSN# in your credit. Just in case, if he files for bankruptcy in the future, your credit will be severely hurt because of his latest actions. You don't want to go through that tiring job of writing endless dispute letters and fixing credit. Get it corrected asap!! :)

Yup!! And let us know how it goes. I have heard from others that correcting a dispute from the bureaus is very lengthy. Stick to your guns!! Good luck Suebee.. :)
