My husband got a call and a letter from afni about a telephone bill from Chicago IL. We live in Marietta Ohio and always have. Neither my husband or I have ever been to Chicago.
The letter included a form he is supposed to fill out and mail or fax back in 3 weeks or will be turned over to collections. He is supposed to provide DOB, SS#, Drivers license #, Address, daytime and evening phone #s, copies of ID etc.
Sending all this info makes me uncomfortable. What should we do?

You are NOT required to send these things. Send them a letter informing them that this is not your debt and that you require them to send you validating documentation regarding this debt. Also inform them that should this account appear on your credit reports, you will sue them for knowingly putting wrong information on your report.

You can also just send them a cease & desist letter, outlining the same basic things, not your debt, etc....but you may want to be sure this is not a case of ID Theft.
