I have already paid off an old debt, but now 2 years later a new collector sends a bill. I sent them prove that I paid they are dening this and want my passport and i.d. and more prove. I sent them bank statements with my info blacked out. I called the creditor to make sure the first collector was really and yes,but the first collector only showed one payment of 214. I have 3 more on my bank statment after that. What can I do to get them to understand that I will not pay again on an account that I made papyments and payed in full.

You may wish to send a cease and desist letter so that the only communication that they may do be in writing + a debt validation letter. Both certified letters, return reciept requested. If they can provide validation then you may wish to contact the origional collection agency via mail (make sure everything is in writing so that you have a paper trail) if they claim to act as if you have never made payments despite the checks that have been cashed then you may want to persue legal action by first contacting your states attorney generals office as well as the FTC as it is a violation of the fdcpa for them to do this as it is your right to decide what debt the payment is to be made on, and for them to (in effect) misrepresent the ammount owed.

JCMET hit it on the head... VALIDATE

Also see if you can get your back bank records showing the further payment and the letter from the original CA showing the debt amount.

Collection Letter + Bank statement showing payments in total of original debt + CA stopped cold.

DONT EVER send a CA more than proof of payment/ There is no reason under heaven for them to have your passport, id or anything else that is not involved with your debt. As far as SSIN you are only required to verify the LAST FOUR digits!!!

Please remember this!!!!!
