American Offshore Express

There is a new TV comedy called Outsourced and I thought I called Amex and got the cast members!
American Express left me an 800 number so I called it back. A polite gentleman with an Indian accent answered and I gave him my info! He told me about an old past due balance that I do not dispute. I explained to him that I have been having a tough time of it due to the economy and I just can't afford to pay right now. He asked me what my current situation was. When I asked if he was with American Express and not a collector he assured me he was so I gave him the info. He said hold on and came back with a 50 percent offer if I paid today! I found that funny and explained that if I could not make payment I surely could not pay the balance in full.
"Hold on please!" he said.
"Sure."
"Thank you for holding." I will give you 55% with a monthly payment of -- per month."
"OK," I said. "Thats good."
"Can you give me 12 post dated checks?" he asked.
"No, not until you send me your offer in writing." I said.
"Hold on please." pause. "Thank you. You need to fax us a letter giving us permission to fax you a letter."
"I do not have a fax and why can't you just email it to me?"
"I am sorry, we can't do that."
"Mail?"
"Sorry no!" he said. "We need a faxed letter so that we can fax you a letter. Is there a fax you can get to?"
"No. Sorry." I replied.
"Kinkos?"
"I do not want my personal info known by the Kinkos clerk."
"I will call you back. I said. What is your name?"
"Rajish. My direct line is 1-800-770-----
I hung up and called the number I had from pre-outsource days and got a person here in the US. She told me I had to deal with Rajish! I called back the same number and asked for a supervisor and got a senior account manager. Senior only meant she was as old as me. Same answer.
I asked her what I should do if I have no fax!
"I have no idea."
I asked for a supervisor again and got the voice mail of the operations manager. Still waiting for a call back and I will be very surprised when it comes.
I guess this whole experience will make the TV show more of a reality show than a comedy.

Thanks! I just want to settle this so I can one day get my Amex back. What I owe them is about twice what my monthly balance used to be! It seems like a small fortune today! I want to pay them but they make it so hard! Rajish just wants his commission! He called today and left a message looking for his fax. Fax this!
