I have some credit card debt that I can't afford to pay the minimums on and last month I didn't pay. American Express called my boss at work several times one day looking for me (I wasn't there).

I don't mind dealing with debt collectors at home as I try to get out from under this debt, but really want to avoid the humiliation of calls at work. I called them and told them not to call me at work, but is that enough? Do I need to send them something in writing (and if so what)? Will even that work?

Thanks for any advice.

Just a correction to the above,

Original creditors do not have to follow the FDCPA but if your state has laws for debt collection, the Original creditor will have to follow them and you should state that to them when you call or in writing. They are sometimes more strict than the FDCPA and that works in your favor.

Massachusetts and I believe Texas are 2 of them states. I know there must be others, it is just a matter of researching it.
