Call from Ameriloan
Date: Tue, 10/27/2009 - 07:33
When I verified that she was indeed speaking to me she said she has one of my accounts in her office and needed to verify my identity.
She asked for the last 4 of my social and I flat out told her I wasn't giving it out to someone over the phone. She then gave read me my address and said could I at verify that. I did confirm that she had the correct address.
Then she says "You owe $135. How would you like to pay that today?"
I almost laughed. I owe $135. How would I like to pay that? How about, how would she like to verify that?
I asked her what company she was calling with and she said Ameriloan. I asked her what this $135 is supposedly for. She claims it was for a PDL taken out in 2007. I told her I've never taken out a PDL with Ameriloan.
She swears I took one out in August of 2007 under my maiden name. That's how I know it's BS. I took my husbands last name (legally changed it) in May 2007. So in August, I wouldn't have been using my maiden name.
I told her as much and she said I must have made a mistake on my application and listed my maiden name. Uhm, no, I don't think so. I told her again I do not have any debt with Ameriloan and then asked her for the address where I could send a DV letter. She said that Ameriloan does not give out its address.
I told her fine and that I was going to end the call. Then she gave me the number 1-800-503-8028 to call if I'd like to "do the right thing" and pay Ameriloan back.
I'm in the process of settling my debts and if I owed Ameriloan $135 I'd pay it. Because I want to pay everything back. But I'm not paying anything I don't owe.
So, I've been looking online for Ameriloan's address but I can't seem to find the one for PDLs. I can only find Ameriloan mortgage.
Does anyone out there know of the address I can send DV letter to? Also, will a DV letter even work since apparently they are the original creditor?
Regardless, I don't owe the debt and I won't be paying them one cent.

Gotcha. Will definitely do that. I wondered why if I took this loan out in 2007 that this is the first I've heard about it. I should have asked her that, but I didn't want to say anything at all that made it sound like I was agreeing I owed the debt, because I don't.
But you would think if I took out a PDL and didn't make a payment for 2 years, that they would have called long before now. I pulled my credit report just to be safe and they aren't showing on it. I'll just complain to the AG (our state has a handy online form) and ignore the calls.

A DV letter will not do much with Ameriloan. They are ILLEGAL by all means and do not play fairly. If you never took a loan with them just ignore the calls and do not speak with them when they call.
They are phising to get into your accounts and scam you out of money! Glad to see you have been firm with them and are not intimidated. Tell em pound sand! :)

This website has certainly taught me a lot about standing up for myself. Lol. A year ago they would have had me in tears and scared they were going to sue.
Now I know my rights and for the most part don't get too freaked out. I still have my moments, but at least now I know there isn't debtors prison and that they can't garnish wages in PA.

Seeing this lets us all know we are doing something important for others on this site ;)
Hang in there and keep us posted!
State Laws on PDL
Even if you owe Ameriloan or other pay day companies, check your state laws. The APR they charge is illegal in some states like Maryland. So, you don't have to repay them anything. And they can't report it to the credit agencies.
Finally, they would never give you a physical address but a P.O. Box. Ignore them.
