I know it differs from state to state, but does anyone know what our rights are? I have every intention of paying a medical bill, in fact I have been paying on it, but because of the billing system, i was 2 days late with the check and it went automatically to amo recoveries, who were very unpleasant.

You'll likely get more/faster help with your problem over in our collection agencies forum. Meanwhile, here's a link to the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (fdcpa). FDCPA is the primary Federal law that governs what debt collectors can and cannot do. Most [every?] state has similar laws at the state level, which may toughen the provisions of FDCPA.

Meanwhile, give us a little more information, please... What state do you live in, and how old is this account? As in, this payment you missed that caused it to go to collections, was that recent? Or years old?

Mods, can we get this moved over to the CA board, so it'll get more exposure?
