Anfi TDS debt letter

I just received a collection notice from Anfi regarding an account from 2001. I havn't calledAnfi yet because I'm not sure how to respond if they try to scam me. Should I first call the original account holder, TDS Telecom?
Debt Validation
Either call the original creditor or send a debt validation letter to the collection agency that is collecting. I personally wouldn't speak to anyone from the collection agency before getting the debt validated so you know they are legitimately able to collect on this debt.
