Im assuming these CA's have just acquired these archaic accounts, and they have shown up on my credit report as new accounts?!!!

This sounds like the actions of a junk debt buyer. They buy up old accounts and try to collect on them. Unforutnately, all too many people are unaware of their rights under the law, and pay something that has either already been paid or is out of SOL.
