Collection agencies asking for human resources

I've been screening my phone calls ever since I started getting calls at work. Anyway, I tellt hem i'm not there, and when I ask them what this in regards to, I tell them I can't take personal calls at work (though 99%) of the time I get the company name and can send a C&D letter. This one company won't give me a name or anything just says it's a personal matter and hang up. ne. Finally I had enough of it yesterday and said I no longer worked there.(Now mind you, they don't know it's not me as I don't answer w/ my name.. nor do i have the capability of of seeing who is calling on the phone I have, so I have to answer it.
Yesterday when I said I didn't work there anymore, they asked how long it was been. Said a couple months. They asked for Human resources. I hung up.
Can they ask for human resources? I've had a few companies do that, but i've just hung up on them. Course our company is a big company, and our employment verification is down in houston, and you need an employee # to get through the phone system there. I could just give them that. There's no option if you press zero that you'll get anywhere.

They can do that, however at my job if they do speak with HR, they are told they don't verify employment. Ours is like yours they have to have the employee# and actually use a website to verify the employment. Someone on this board once suggested to me that I could tell my HR dept that I had been a victim of identify theft and some collectors were bugging me about it. I never had to go that far, but its just a thought.

some do as you have found out,but this sounds like a bottomfeeder.as long as you have the backup of the employee number you should have no problem.just keep hanging up on them if they refuse to provide any info.
