i have a question regarding using debit cards to pay online.. i have a chase account thats now being handled by asset acceptance llc. my question is. i had called chase and they forwareded me to them. i just recently received a letter from them offering a 50% discount. but this thing practilly expires tomorrow.. they forwarded me to this paymybill.com service. has anyone here actually made payment that way before.. cause i just wont have time for mailing a postal money order. how safe is this. thanks for your time ithe original amount is for 1700 and i get to settle for about 800.

Hi Vj,

If I were you, I'd not have given them the money online. What document would you have in that case to prove that you actually have made the payment? If you use the small 'search box' at the right hand corner of the page you'd learn many scary stories about Asset Acceptance. They are one of the most notorious CAs.

Now, if they are really willing to settle at 50% ask them to extend the time limit so that you can arrange for money. And, when you settle, obtain a 'paid in full' statement from them as a precaution against the account reappearing in the future.

Make sure you have a settlement agreement in writing first before you pay a dime. As stated above, they are one of the worst collection agencies in America and regularly flout the law.

They are also Number 1 on the list of agencies that are *so* bad, that 461 people have sued *them* for flagrant FDCPA violations. They seem to get sued every 3 or 4 days....
